Different mouse, different accuracy?

Is there really a difference between the mouse's we have for gaming, can different kinds and makes make you more accurate than others?

can a mouse thats not really good for gaming, actually skip pixals on your screen where the lazer is not so accurate in detecting its surface.

I have a very old gaming mouse, and sometimes it seems like if i aim on the left side of a players head and the slightest moviment to try get it on his head, it just clicks over to the right side of his head and i have to re-aim.

I dont really know what all the dpi settings is for other than making the mouse spin like crazy, so what does this really all mean, cause i see when they advertize a mouse they go by the dpi settings.
 
DPI is Dots per Inch, that allows you to set the speed at which the pointer (your weapon) reacts when you move the mouse. The higher your DPI is the more accurate your mouse will be.

Since I bought my Stinger i have not looked back. The best investment I have made! Used in conjunction with my Zboard my game picked up massively! You mention your mouse is old, how old? Also, the newer models have laser point so it is MUCH more accurate and dependable. Take out R600 and get yourself a new one, you wont be sorry...
 
I am no expert here, but higher dpi means higher resolution. Which in turn translates into finer tracking by your mouse.

I think with any laser/optical mouse, the tracking is affected by what surface it is used on. I have a Razer DeathAdder, and was using it directly on my desk, it wasn't too bad, but when I got the ExactMat, made a huge difference. Before I got the DeathAdder, used an old Logitech Trackball mouse, that really sucked, and was almost useless for sniping (read head-shots). With the DeathAdder, I loved sniping, actually preferred it.

That's been my experience anyway. Maybe the regular gamers can give their answer as well.

I know some q3 players personally, they couldn't be bothered with dpi lol.

+1 when i was still playing competitively i looked for a mouse that was the most comfortable to control.
Ended up with the logitech G1. It only has 800DPI and thats more than enough.
DPI is more in the mind :p
 
Ja I had this same conversation with Travis (Shase) at one of our friend's parties the other day, he just lolled and said its more about comfort than anything else.

+1 as long as your mousing surface is clean, and your mouse is functioning it will be sorted.

Just turn off Mouse Acceleration IMO.
 
well my mouse is maybe about 4 years or so old, it fits my hand perfectly and is very comfortable.

anyway, if i put my DPI on my mouse to its highest and then change the sensitivity down in the game, will that make any difference or just put me back to square 1 as if the dpi was off, or by having it set that high, the tracking is smoother ?

and where do you turn off this acceleration thing?
 
i dont understand how anyone can use a mouse at such a high speed, i mean i put mine on fullest, i just tap the mouse a milimetre, and i turn like 17 times.
i'm like the tazmanian devil or even sonic the hedgehog
