Different SSD manufacturers. What's been your experience?

Performance: Crucial
Reliability: Samsung

Same, I usually avoid that time tested route. Been bitten before.

Makes perfect sense here:
1) Capacities double every couple months
2) Little noticeable performance difference between brands - they're all "fast enough"
3) Presumably you've got backups of everything

...given the above paying extra for quality is a bad trade-off in my books.

My Transcend SSD has read writes above 500MB/s and has never given any trouble. At the time I bought it, it was the best value for money.

Crucial is manufactured by... Micron.

Micron is the vendor for memory in Crucial's case. It'll soon be Intel IMFT and Micron once they roll out Intel's 3D NAND to the lower runs off the SSD ladder.

Horses for courses...in my HTPC, I used the cheapest, decent quality SSD I could find (an Adata S599 64Gb). Once the initial OS and software install was done, the thing has been untouched so didn't see a reason to spend extra on performance or durability. The file server still has mechanical drives in it. On my main PC and laptop, Samsung 850 Evos.

Work out how you're going to use the drive and choose accordingly.

I'm glad you guys said Samsung, this is the one I had on my to-get list before I started this thread. The R/W speed also seems ok.

Samsung 850 EVO, 250GB, 2.5", SATA6G, 540/520MB/s

Got the 750 EVO for R1173 from Rebeltech. The rest of my machines either run on Intel or Kingston. No issues with either.

*sigh of relief* well it looks like Samsung have the green light. I like the brand, favouritism if you may call it.

Part of their NAND testing is putting the drive into a small-scale particle collider to see how the driver controller handles random bit flips.

They go waaaay beyond the requirements that most other companies do for their testing.
