Luckily it's not difficult to assess the economic impact when I start receiving SMS's of businesses in the area closing down for good.
I'm not what you'd call a caring person in general, not at all actually, but I frequently find myself thinking about some of the small businesses and people I've been supporting over the years. From the nice barmen and servants at my local pubs to the nice old Chinese tannie at the local Chinese food shop who always remembered me and greeted me with a smile and a broken English greet. The old woman who cuts my hair, kinda horribly, but I always went back because she was fast, efficient and just as allergic to forced chit-chat and f**ks given as I was.
F**k the government for forcing authoritarian fever dream upon us, literally with guns in our faces, I have no doubt most if not all of these businesses would have been able to find creative ways to enforce their own levels of hygiene and processes to reassure customers that we could still make use of those services with minimal risk, the risk we should have been allowed to assess on our own with nothing but timely and accurate information from the government. Funny how many of the same people who always champion South Africa as a place where we find solutions in spite of the k@k governance are now some of the same people who welcome blanket policies that completely disarmed us from any personal responsibility and decision making.
And f**k every authoritarian mouthbreather on my social media who thinks this government is doing such an amazing job because they're suddenly taking something serious for the first time in 30 years. The same f**ers who've been ass-pounding our economy for decades are now suddenly the darlings or our nation when I look at most online opinions.
All you middle and upper-class office trolling f**ers have no idea what's coming.
At its core I've now learned that there really are two types of people in this world:
Those who accept death is inevitable and would rather die than give up their freedom, and those weak little b*tches who've never really grown up and think there are people above them who need to, and are more capable of making decisions for them.
