The DVD includes additional packages, usefull for those with slow or no internet. Probably contains stuff you don't need. Biggest addition is all the language packs.

If you have any form of ADSL or 3G etc then just go for the CD. If you need any additional packages then you can install them via the net.

The DVD does not contain Kubuntu, Xubuntu etc, just Gnome with extra stuff you don't need.

See the following links for a list of packages on the CD/DVD:

Also another argument to go for the CD version is that it has been a while since 10.04 has been released and by now many of the extra applications will need to be updated with your next sync, which makes the DVD version redundant.

Like has been said, if you have internet and plan to keep everything up to date then I would go for the CD version, install all the extras and bells and whistles afterwards and keep it up to date, if you have no internet or very limited internet and just want a working PC and could not be bothered with updates (you will have minimal access to the internet and therefore security updates and program updates do not mean much), then the DVD version should do fine.
