In the FAQ section of DigiChilli's website it says:

Question
Is DigiChilli’s bandwidth supplied by Seacom?

Resolution
International bandwidth is from Seacom, local is from Saix.

Does the local bandwidth being supplied by SAIX mean DigiChilli users will have access to the SAIX news server?

I cannot access the SAIX news server with Digichilli's test account, then again you can always download elsewhere since you have unlimited intl bandwidth.

"Your question is illogical in the context."

- Mystic asked if you can access the SAIX server, which is only good for local downloads (which is what I assume he was reffering to)
You replied that you can't access the SAIX server.

I think there are very few in SA (and on this forum) that use an uncapped local account for anything other than downloading.

How is my question illogical?

I had hoped you would be able to access news.saix.net from a DigiChilli account as it is reliable and free. Even though you can download from international servers, finding a reliable, free international news server so far has been fruitless.

Exactly my point, thanks Mystic.

Digichilli doesn't have an uncapped local account, thus illogical.

So to clarify the technicalities which everyone is aware of, but being so anal about. International bandwidth is from Seacom, local is from Saix. Clearly I was referring to saix, clearly I was referring to local only, and as mystic pointed out, I was implying that free and reliable access to international servers is hard to come by.

But live up to the stereotype of forum w*nker, instead of adding anything useful you just whine and criticise other people, awesome. Way to contribute guys! :)

You could use a subscription from GigaNews, etc and access it like that if you had to.

IS news server works, torrents work, DC++ work, and there are rumours that Digichilli is going to have their own news server.

IS is crap, I used the IS server about 2-3 years ago, but its speeds dropped siginificantly and it just got too crowded, always done, etc, so I changed to Saix, no probs. A few months ago I thought I'd try IS again and bought a local only 30gb IS account, what a wate of money, IS was even worse than I remembered.

Torrents? Sharing the limited bandwidth (up until now) in SA on a 384k line? Not attractive at all, but perhaps things will change with this trend of cheaper uncapped accounts. I guess only time will tell.

Thanks for the more positive inputs guys, that's all I was looking for.

An uncapped local account is hardly signifficant to people that have uncapped international since there are way more sources to get your favourite legal content from.

I believe i answered your question with my 1st post, so calling names would be to your own amusement

Ahhh, so it appears I have been vindicated. There I was complaining in the Digichilli thread about useful information getting buried and here a thread pops up asking exactly what I had been querying and not getting answered!

From the Digichilli FAQ :

Does this mean I would be able to continue using the SAIX NS with this service? I currently use my Telkom local to download from the NS. Would nothing change in this respect?

....

Hmm, so I am not the only one finding relevant questions being buried under celebrations of, and begging for, free trial accounts. ;)

I then got some rather sarcy comments, from Digichilli representatives too...

- Yes, very descriptive, now I know exactly what to do with my uncapped account, thank you for that, you definitely cleared things up.

It never seems to amaze me as to how STUPID some people can be !! Instead we take offense and post sarcastic posts instead of either asking if the person could point them in the right direction as to what the meant by their post or going to google to see where they could download the content that they require.

Think out of the BOX people, we stay in South Africa and have been offered the opportunity of an uncapped account and all we can do is see if we can download from local NS servers, its the same kind of mentality that the folks back in the day had when they thought the earth was flat because it looked flat.

News Servers are one of the best places to download stuff, yes to access decent speeds does cost a bit, but if you goto http://www.news.astraweb.com/plans.html you can pickup an account for $15 and if you shop around a bit there are some sites that have specials which allow you to get it for $ 11. Once you have subscribed you can hop over to www.binsearch.info and search that site as if you were using the local news server + you dont have to wait for it to be cached, just download and get full speeds. Also they support SSL connections which means that it is all encrypted :-)

There are many ways to get legal stuff, this is just one of them ;-)

@ jeinnor30, thank you, while I know all of this, the original reply by Heynow could have simply suggested what you posted above, instead of posting that my question was illogical and then insisting that his one line answer actually added anything to the thread.

I never intended my original comment to be sarcastic, I was simply asking how an unlimited local account would benefit Mystic if he couldn't access the saix server, and doesn't have the extra R100 a month for the international server. But hey, I read thread lurkers posting pointless comments all the time, I guess that's why so many others don't join in the debate.

If you don't have anything useful to add, don't comment.
