Hi Guys

Can someone tell me more about leased line or diginet, is it the same. What are the costs, --telkom and ISP and what speeds I can get please

Thanks
DD

Its is the same. Speeds name your speed and you can get it, but you need to have deep pockets.

Why are you considering this ?

Just want to get more information on this topic

Its slow? I was on a 2mb line and the last thing it was... was slow.

okay yeah true. we sitting on a 64k line. But what is so special about a lease line? Its uncapped?

Our diginet line (which we had) was a 64k line - there was no limit to the amount of stuff you could download, but you had to have deep pockets to be able to afford it. And you was restricted by the 64k transfer rate.

ADSL is so much faster and cheaper nowadays, and there's other stable technologies out there... which is genuinely faster (and cheaper) than D1cknet...

The only advantage a D1cknet line has, is the SLA. But that's about it.

I'd prefer a much cheaper connection than having to pay lots of moola for an expensive, slow, useless connection.

We've got a leased line too, only advantages I can figure out is that its guaranteed, unshaped, and unlimited usage.
But yeah, like  expensive, our 256K line comes in at R13K pm!
So, unlimited yeah, but only 256K... we need faster but going 512K puts it over R20K per month. no way hosay!
But I see new technologies coming up... one company to come see me is talking about a wireless link from Randburg (about 30Kms away, we're in Lanseria), gauranteed 1Mb speed (minimum, many times faster), at about R6K/pm... we'll see.
Another option is maybe get ADSL and use that for the fast needs (eg. video conf), keep the leased for other usage (mail, normal browsing, downloads, etc)... but the prob there is Telkom (kom nie!) with ages long installation of ADSL in the area, same old "no port available at present" ****
I must actually check whats our bandwidth usage... no use paying a cr@pload for unlimited usage, and s-l-o-w speed, if we can get much faster speed, even if limited to maybe 30Gbs.
But then theres also the stability and latency... my experience with wireless (iburst/mtn/vc) is not good vs fixed line....

Well we have 2 adsl lines at the moment(OF course not one is working), one was installed on 24 january and the other 20 feb. We asked them to activate the line and i still have not gotten a response from them..
