Hi, I don't watch any TV (I stream everything online), but my mother still watches TV and records content onto VCR cassettes. She has a large LCD TV, although she always watches with the black bars on the side because of the analogue signal being fed to the TV. With the change-over to digital, I'm assuming this won't work unless I install a set-top box to convert the digital signal to an analogue one. This will probably also letter box the image, and then letter box it again when recorded to the tape, and then played back.

I'd prefer her to move completely to the digital format, but still being able to record her shows. Does anyone know if there are any set top boxes that can record digital TV broadcasts?

Zidoo X9S and Zidoo X10 have HDMI In. The only difference is the X10 has an internal SATA bay.

The black strips are just from the aspect ratio you have selected.
