Is it possible to use the PS3 to record via DSTV decoder?

Nope...not currently, unless you install YDL(or any other linux)
PS3 can't do that anymore, right?
PS3 has no video input, there is an accessory out in the UK called "Play TV" that gives you the option to have video and sound in options and you can record stuff onto the HDD.
Interesting. I wonder if you can send a DSTV feed into that and then have the PS3 upscale normal TV on your HDTV set?
Currently there are not much HDTV channels. Imagine having all channels right now upscaled. The question is if the quality of an upscaled SDTV picture is worth it. Also a DSTV decoder recieves its signal in digital format.Well it's got an RF input thus if the decoder is selected on the RF output it should by all usual standards detect the signal just like a standard TV. Would have to test it for sure. What I read is that YES it does up-scaling according to/depending on the PS3 settings but signal quality would play a role. Pity there is no direct terrestrial input tho but me thinks it would do the trick. Only question/point is' if you already own a HD PVR, whats the point? Up-scaling normal TV channels will work well with my old spare SD unit?

You also have to decrypt the signal, so some sort of CAM is necessary as well as hardware to handle the signal.Interesting. I wonder if you can send a DSTV feed into that and then have the PS3 upscale normal TV on your HDTV set?
All you need to do is feed the signal from the DSTV decoder into the Play TV RF input. You also have to decrypt the signal, so some sort of CAM is necessary as well as hardware to handle the signal.
