Hey everyone, hope you all had a great festive season!

Let me have your opinion on dining out with your partner (yes I am being pc) wrt to the following:

Do you sit alongside or do you sit across from your partner?

Personally I feel sitting alongside makes conversations much easier to listen to, however sitting across just feels more comfortable.

I prefer sitting across my partner as I can face her. When we are with friends we'll sit next to each other.

We sit across the table facing each other. Makes eye contact easier and you can also use your eyes to communicate... as in showing her with a glance that she must have a look at something happening over therrrrre! (no need to point fingers - very rude!).

Across - far easier to parry my missus' repeated attempts to purloin samples of my food. :D

I find sitting alongside more intimate and romantic.

I prefer sitting at 90 degrees to my partner in what the maitre of an upmarket restaurant once told me was referred to [in the industry] as a 'romantic setting' :)

Sitting opposite can be a bit problematic when it comes to conversation, especially in noisy restaurants. Wine bottles and the other various bits & pieces - which tend to be dumpd in the centre - can also get in the way.

And alongside - I am assuming that you mean shoulder-to-shoulder - can result in a crick in the neck as you swivel to face your partner. OTOH, it does make it more difficult for your partner to catch you gawking at that luscious dish across the way ... :)

Unless your with a crowd, I sit acros. Sitting alongside feels too much like a having dinner with your mom as she shows you the updated family albums. Since women are traditional (even those that deny it), its only romantic when sitting accross as she has your undivided attention.

Then again there are the exception like when your sitting outside and watching the view or certain urges are descretley being attended to.

+1 @ 90 degree's.

Unless with another couple, then me and my GF sit on one side and the other couple on the other.
