Direct Marketing Association Database Leaked

That's interesting, as I have now been getting probably twice as many sms's and calls since registering on the "do not call" site!!

Sounds like hot air. If someone on the list gets spam from a company then they can take action. The problem is that the safeguarding of this info is based on trust. i.e. it can only work if they have access to our details.

I just don't answer private numbers or pretty much any number I don't have saved on my phone. If they don't leave a message then it probably wasn't that important.

I don't answer private numbers either, but these bastards are now hitting me with sms's.

I refused to use the DMA "do not call" thingy.. I thought it asked for too much damn information....

If you used it, just keep a careful eye on your accounts etc.... I think there was way too much personal info on that Database...

Quote from the original article :
"The database is said to contain sensitive information, such as contact information, address information and identity numbers and is distributed to the association’s 389 members on a monthly basis via e-mail. Members are then instructed not to contact people contained in the database."

"He confirmed that the information in the database included identity numbers, contact detail and addresses.
The Direct Marketing Association, however, confirmed that the database is not forwarded to anyone who is not a member of the association. The database is also secured by means of a password, which is not included in the email when sent to members."

Hello DMA, how could you ever expect to send out an email with Names, ID numbers and addresses to your members ("secured by a password" even though not sent with the email) and expect that it will not get into the "wrong hands".

FFS: In todays times this is Secure? People can be trusted with ALL the info in their hands?

The ONLY info that these 'members' should need are your contact details (ie email, contact numbers) and name so that they can find you on their own database and remove you. Anything more than that is utterly unnecessary!

i don't have the time or respect for people who do not respect me. if i have told you once that i'm not interested then please do not call me again, especially if my number is unlisted. therefore when i am rude to you and put the phone down in your ear, you deserve it. end of story.
