Okay fine...Windows Vista is coming out...and alot of people are excited...all fair and well...

...but then you get people like me who is more than happy with XP...but if Micro$oft wants to be an a$$ and drop Direct x10 / Service Pack 3 for XP just to force people to change to Vista then I really get pissed off

P.S. I've heard the Direct X9.L Rumors

LOL, with a system like your's it was made for vista dude ;) Get it like a sea fairing scallywag :D

I'm running Ultimate on an Amd64 3000+ 200GB Seagate SATA and a puny little Gigabyte Geforce 6600, 1GB ram, it's really fast and it works well,

I'm not trying to be rude, but if you take the following month and check hardware and software requirements, read some reviews and just "learn" what Vista has to offer, you won't want to stick with XP ;)

what does vista offer that xp does not?

apart from dx10 and aero?

Ready boost and the future. Nobody is forcing you to upgrade to vista it's a choice. XP will be supported till 2014 it just won't get dx10.

If you want to continue to enjoy your games move with the times. And vista isn't that expensive you can get home premium dsp for R1100 at both take2 and prophecy shop.

jeez man...not everybody wants Vista...I can still install Direct X9.C on Win98 for heaven sakes.
no you can't.:P

Anyway, stop whining. There will be no DX10 for XP, deal with it. Buy Vista, if you don't want to then stick to DX9.0c and XP

Do us all a favour and support games that use opengl rather than dx.

Discover new features in Windows Vista

Windows Vista offers a considerable number of new and improved features over Windows XP. Some of these great new features include:
•

Windows Aero: Windows Vista features a totally different look for its interface—a cleaner, transparent look with impressive graphic quality, not to mention Live Icons and the new Windows Flip 3D feature. Windows Aero requires a higher-end video graphics card; otherwise, Windows Vista is displayed using Windows Basic. Check with your computer manufacturer, or use the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor to see whether your video card is ready for Windows Aero.
•

Windows Sidebar: Windows Vista offers a panel (transparent, if you're using Windows Aero) that displays your selection of Windows gadgets—mini-applications that perform useful functions, such as a clock, a calendar, a Microsoft Office Outlook inbox representation, and currency exchange.
•

Microsoft Windows Media Player 11: While you can download it for Windows XP, this latest and greatest version of Windows Media Player is designed for Windows Vista and shouldn't be missed. With its new graphics-oriented interface, Windows Media Player 11 abandons the text-oriented look and field of previous versions. Did I mention that you can also use Windows Media Player 11 to share your media over your private home network?
•

Windows Search: One of the most helpful new features in Windows Vista, you can now search for files or applications from almost anywhere. Unlike in Windows XP, with Window Search, you can simply type a few letters of your search request, and the results appear on the fly—a helpful feature when looking for a file or application from the Start menu. For example, type fir, and Windows Firewall entries appear in the Start menu.

oms is that the list of things new lol

i can get windows media player 11 already

i own vista and i like it because its nice and fast but for average joe's who just want something to their work on xp will fine for many years to come

All i see is more pretty frills taking up my memory and another way for microsoft to take what little control i had over my pc away.

It's called Vendor Lock-In, party.

like which ones?
the stuff by iD, Chronicles of Riddick and what else?
As it stands OpenGL is behind DirectX. Whose fault is that? It's not Microsoft's fault, that's for sure.

The ultimate OpenGL punter delivered Doom3, while others brought GOW, FarCry, Crysis and in general made the 360 possible.

SO in supporting OpenGL, what must I support really.

I'm still waiting for a real explanation as to why xp cannot support dx10.

how come isnt dx better :)

Unfortuntely (from a gamer's point of view) opengl's development has focused more on workstation use so DX probably is a bit ahead in terms on newer features. Opengl's pluses are that it is an open standard and that it is portable.

When did doom3 come out? When did GOW and Crysis? FarCry is the only valid comparission.

Opengl is an open standard. Do I really have to say anymore?

Simple: $$$

If you do a proper search you'll find that the enquirer posted a later article in which they explain how they were mistaken about DX9.0L being for XP.
