Ok, so ive got an issue when trying to run COD2. Everytime i click on it, the load screen appears and then an error message.

"DirectX has encountered an unrecoverable error.
Please consult the DIrectX FAQ."

My question is, why is it doing this and can it be fixed.

DirectX version is 9.0c
GFX: Mobile Intel GM965 Express Chip

I've gone onto intels site and it does list cod2 as a compatible game.

Any ideas?
Thanks

You might not want to hear this but I blame the videocard, but perhaps try the latest update (game) and latest videocard drivers or even older drivers, depends how old the game is, they could have lost compatibility with newer drivers (happens with nVidia drivers sometimes)

What happens if you run COD in safe mode?

You might not want to hear this but I blame the videocard...

Im pretty sure it is the video card... but if its listed on intel site.. surely they must've successfully run the game unless they a bunch of liars trying to make their chipsets look beefed up.

Other thing is, WoW and CSS runs perfectly on the intel unless an old game like cod2 is still more graphically intensive.

soz, somehow you post found its way to third so i didnt see it. Nope safe mode brings up the same error.

Suggestion, click start>run> type in dxdiag press enter. Click at the far right and look for "override".

Take the exact value of your refresh rate and enter it there, for instance 85, 60 etc.

Are you running COD2 from a directory copy or an installation? I've seen people copy each other's directories over at a lan etc. to have the game, so that's the reason I'm asking.

Reason being, the directory copy might be flawed or somehow the configuration files are still thinking it's different hardware etc.

I might be totally wrong though ;)

far right on dxdiag is "Help" and none of the other tabs show an any overide option.

Yes, its a directory copy, the thing tho is that all the other guys that use the same dir copy got it working.

Ok, I might be remembering that override setting from DirectX 8, sorry about that.

Anyways, I'd suggest either asking someone or googling for the configuration files for COD and try either deleting them or editing them, just the default player config files.

I don't have the game on my laptop ;) don't think it will work either :p

acidrain, I picked a copy of this game for R100 a few weeks ago at the It shop in Constantia Village. It's on budget now, and it's great game from what I hear. Maybe it's better to just buy a legit copy when you get the chance.

I sometimes used to have issues like that with directory copies too, back in the day. That's when I stopped using them and always got install files. Other than that, update drivers and try a later DirectX update.

I was able to play Unreal 2 on computers at work with the same graphics chip last year. Ran badly but it worked lol.
