Dirt 2 5870 black screen?

Ok so got my 5870 but when I play dirt 2 the intro movies and all are fine aswel as the icons like press enter etc but everything else is completely black. If I use the arrows I hear it go to all the sub menus. I can even start a race if I just keep on pressing enter but I cant see anything. Any ideas

Thats wierd, I seem to have the same driver version and no black screen. Whats your resolution, how's your cooling in the case?

My peeve with Dirt 2 is that I can't sign into that stupid windows live thing. So I can't save any progress.

Why cant you sign into Windows live? Have you tried making an offline profile? I think it's called a local profile. You hit the button to create a new profile and you get that big block of text (Can't remember what it's about) but if you scroll down, there's a link in the text to create a local profile and you can save in all windows live games.

1440 by 900 and My case is pretty cool. Its a cm690 and 5 case fans.

Why can you afford a 5870, but play have a 19" wide (or is it an "HD-ready" 720p TV?).

Screen is the FIRST cool thing I consider when a think about my pc

I have no problems with my 5870 either with Dirt 2. Try removing all drivers and reinstalling them.

Dirt 2 works brilliantly on my T260. I think maybe try reinstalling drivers like Tero says.

For me the 19 is perfect. Its at my res desk so I sit pretty close and its just a normal lcd. No hd. And will try that in the morning. What does driver sweeper do? Or is the title self explanatory?

It's pretty self explanatory, select your ATI drivers, clean them, boot into safe mode, run driver sweeper again.

Always remove the Catalyst Install Manager first from control panel because you can screw up CCC on your next install.

Hey iron_man,

The problem isn't your drivers. A few other people have been experiencing the same problem as you.

Try the following:

The way I got it to run successfully and haven't had an issue with since is I found the No Intro Fix. Probably can't suggest the site here, though google it and you should be able to find it. It basically replaces all the intro videos in the game with 2kb files and doesn't play them when you start. I'm not sure whether it is the ATI drivers or the hardware, though I am currently running the game with 9.11 drivers fine, it just cracks up if you play the intro videos.

I have had his issue this morning after looking around i changed a few values in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dirt 2\gameconfig\video.xml

basically changed the watched values to from false to true
and it works perfectly for me now
