So I got my FNB Gold Credit card today (as per my thread about getting a Visa based CC). I setup my internet banking profile and see there is a charge of R200 for "#ANNUAL EBUCKS FEE".

Looking at the eBucks site I see that I have to probably swipe R15 000 through the card just to break even, ain't happening, it's a pretty useless and not to mention complex scheme.

How do I get this disabled and reversed? Is the only way to phone them in their office hours?

AFAIK this shouldn't be happening. There is no longer a fee for having eBucks on your credit card (change effected as of 1st October).

I do stand to be corrected though.

Went to apply for my card on the 25th and collected it today, charge is for the 25th.

My mistake, the waived linkage is fee is only for Platinum. Well that sucks. :\

* A linkage fee of R200 is charged in order to link your FNB Gold Credit Card to earn eBucks. The R200 linkage fee is billed upfront to your Gold Credit Card, thereafter charged annually on the anniversary of your initial linkage date. Link your FNB Gold Credit Card to your eBucks account by calling us on 087 320 3200 or logging in at www.eBucks.com

It sucks, luckily I see I can call be between 9am and 1pm on a Sunday, so at least I've got that going for me...

Good luck. I can't believe they charge customers to be part of a loyalty/rewards program. O_o

<< backwards thinking here we GO!

Just a question: I totally understand that paying R200 to belong to eBucks is ridiculous but do you honestly think you won't make up that money during a year? Our situations/needs are different but I make up that R200 in eBucks I less than two months (granted I'm on platinum).

I'll still rather use my Capitec debit card. This CC is just a backup for my no fees at all, 14.25% interest rate MasterCard Virgin Money CC, which I only use to buy or book stuff online.

The complexity of eBucks shees, worse than the Vitality complexity, ABSA really has much simpler with Rewards... but ABSA!

Actually the eBucks scheme is very rewarding if your primary bank is FNB, and you only use your FNB card for all purchases, and yes I do it interest free.

I worked out, as of the new scheme, I only have to do 1 thing a month specifically, which is draw money from a till once a month, the rest of the points I get for just having my products with FNB. With that I score over a R1000 back in ebucks a month.

And yes, the R200 fee is only valid on the credit card. Ebucks is free of charge on the debit cards. Also if you on the bundled platinum package, eg. the discounted Platinum cheque + Credit card bundle, then that R200 is waived. Mine wasn't bundled, so I had to get them to do that and they gave me the R200 back.

Also, if you are not a fan of phoning the bank, there is always the option of logging the call on their website, and they phone you back within 2 days time. This suits me a lot better, because I then don't have to wait on hold on the phone. Very convenient.
