Disappointed by phone options

So, I'm finally due for an upgrade again and for the first time ever there isn't a phoning screaming "get me". Was really hoping for some nice new deals this month, but alas. Maybe I should wait a month or so for the new Samsung or HTCs to be released? I'm on VC btw.

I'm looking at TopUp 315s - the BB Torch is too pricy (works out to R498pm incl BIS), Desire & Samsung Galaxy are old. iPhone has R3199 pay in. Am I missing something obvious?

Otherwise I'll just find a BB 9300 and go with that. That should be free on TopUP 315s.
 
I would much rather go for the Bold 9780 than the Curve 9300 if it's going to be BB. What about the SE XPeria Arc? Single processor but very nice.

Seems like a nice phone, can't find any deals on Okkie's spreadsheet for it though.
 
I'm hoping the XPeria Pro is available later in July when I can upgrade.
 
The Arc is a beautiful device that has character. Not just a flat bar like most others.
 
I think we're reaching the end of the single-core phone era.

There is a big jump from single-core to dual-core phones & when GSMArena benchmarked a Samsung Galaxy II (dual core) against a Galaxy S Plus (single core, running at 1.2Ghz), they saw the results.

Was the same when Intel launched the CoreDuo and Core2Duo processors....your Pentium 4 with hyper-threading became slow overnight. Ah well, with technology you always loose.

Just saw the Arc for the first time and it is a beauty!
 
If you want the best possible phone wait until July for the Samsung Galaxy S2. Or import one from the UK now.
 
Get the XPERIA Arc if you want a nice all-rounder. :) ,wait for GS2 if you want a superphone. I'd take the GS2 if i was taking a 2year contract.

I'm sure it'll be a great phone but I'm guessing it's going to be in the same price range as the iPhone. And, I really don't see the value in spending that much on a phone.
 
I'm somewhat sceptical about what real benefits these dual core processors actually bring for most users. I've seen the SGS2's fantastic benchmarks, but for a phone what does it actually translates to? Developers will develop for what most are using, not for the high end. A year from now there will be quad cores ... and so it will go on and on.
 
I'm sure the dual cores will usher in a new level of eye candy, and perhaps even functionality, on mobile devices. But for now I really don't need a high end phone at R6000ish. All I need it for is basic communication (voice, sms, BBM, whatsapp), calendar appointments, social networking & browsing. All the other fancy gadgets aren't really so necessary for me. Besides, I don't have hours on end to play with my gadgets like I used to anymore.
 
I still love my samsung galaxy s:) would choose it over a bb any day:)
i also own a 9700 but a bb phones are like all the same...

In that case for the BB Bold 9780 for R299/month on Talk 100 including BIS(unlimited browsing and BBM).Phone is free and you get 100 anytime minutes.

The Arc will be perfect for you, well for everything else except BBM, it will serve your needs very well. :)
