'Disappointed' Kallis resigns

it's just a silly thing to resign over. obviously kallis is thinking about the lost appearance fees.

its not impossible.... windies arent a bad unit nowadays... and 20 overs is short enuf for one player to win the game... A gayle blitz or a samuels special could be dangerous..
Wonder if ricardo powell is playin, remember he could give it a bash. he killed us in the 2003 wc opening match and got the windies to like 270..

I would still back sa, but cant be sure of anything. Esp windies.

It was Sarwan and Chanderpaul that saved them in that match. They still can pull a couple of wins off themselves.
 
I know they can, but they have a habit of knocking SA out so often its unbelievable. That and i wanna see what excuse CSA and Smith will give this time. Its one thing to lose a game its another to play badly and blame other factors.
 
JK8 i remember that match. It was lara who scored a brilliant hundred. And Sarwan + Powell smashed us all around at the end to take them to 270..

Chanderpaul played crap.. I remember they were like 12-1 in like 8 overs or something...
And then klusener almost saved us that match...
 
the windies may be crap at test level but i'm always wary of them in any form of the shortened game
 
What i remember about that match was:

Klusener was blitzing them and hit a skyer and he did not run so instead of Nicky Boje facing the next ball...Ntini faced and wasted 2 balls..... in the end we lost by 4 runs.

Thats was the beginning of the end for Klusener. He was never a team player.
 
First of all, if a boss decides to rest you for a while and you lose those days pay, any one of us will scream blue murder. In South Africa, people go on strike KNOWING they're going to lose their salary, and still scream blue murder when it happens. Cricket is Kallis' job and now he is losing payment because he's being rested. That's not greed, that's economics.
Secondly, he is our leading six-hitter, both in test and ODI cricket, in spite of the fact that he has been taught by four SA coaches to anchor the side and to bat cautiously. Just think what he could do with those restrictions lifted!
Kallis should be in the team.
 
jot1.. yes what u say makes sense and he probably should be in the team... But this tourney is looked at as a chance to blood younger players and give them a chance.... We wont learn anything about new players if kallis plays this tourney... Guys like morkel etc who have done well in 20/20 need a chance too...Other countries have dropped their big name players too like India.. and they complained but never made such a big ruckus... We wont learn anything if Kallis comes and plays well in this 20/20 cos we already know what hes capable of and he is vital for the future.. But we need to give others a chance to some of the others and find future superstars who will complement kallis and the rest in the next few years... And plus Kallis needs to come back down to earth and cant threaten selectors.. he is not bigger than sa cricket... if he thinks he is then he can go..
 
I take it you read that Neil Manthorp Article. Firstly....being the leading six hitter in a team where you are the most experienced batsman is not surprising. And that certainly doesn't mean that you are the most aggressive player in the side. Kallis can hit 1s,2s,3s,4s,5s and 6s, but his strike rate is still low and he struggles to adjust the tempo of his batting. That's why he was left out.

And lastly, losing money because you're being rested is NOT economics...it's part and parcel of a cricketer's life. They earn a basic salary and then they get bonuses for every tournament or tour that they take part in. And im sure that many agree that if you can't do a job, then there should be no problems with you being "rested"
 
I do agree with you, rendan, about blooding young cricketers and all that. For me especially exciting as I don't get to see them play, just read and hear about them. This will be great chance for me to do that. But this is also a World Cup tournament and winning it is what it's all about. Our team being the best in the world. So, fielding our best team makes best sense. Which doesn't then gel with leaving the "best all-rounder in the world" out.
I just hope the guys we do have in the team, will bring us the laurels and I am behind them 100% win or lose.
 
Jot1, you are on the money there!! Remember JK is rested and not dropped. If he was dropped, i would rest my case, but rested?? Off course it will end up in a fight because the loss of income. Remember Klusener? Same thing happened, on the Indian tour i think, so he took them to court, got his money and the UCB wasted a few hundred thousand that could have been used on development. So what is the odds of this happening again, or maybe a quick out of court settlement..... think i should rush to the bookies.

BUT, where is HALL??!?!?!?!?!? :mad::mad::mad:
