'Disappointed' Kallis resigns

Kallis will never be a big clean hitter, but he has improved very well in the last two years.
Graeme Smith, in fact, played a year of county cricket and his sole focus was to try to hit big shots and score quickly. Maybe Kallis should do the same, but it mite be a little too late in his career.
 
well haven't those three played more pro 20 cricket? While i like the fact that his position is not secure, i'd have included him ironically just for an anchor position. At the same time u have to consider more than just batting.. bowling comes in too. How effective is he at bowling in pro20? I was surprised tho that hall didn't make the squad cause his bowling at the death has saved SA a few times.
 
Jaquess is a great player. But he needs time to get going in 20/20 you don't have time. It was the right decision not to pick him.

He is a must in the 50 overs and test team but I don't think he is suited to this version of the game.
 
i've seen kallis tear apart an attack with ease

smashes the ball like he the only player that could do that

his mind set is all about slow batting, change his mindset and you have the most explosive batsmen in world cricket

We must be watching two different Kallis' :p

I've seen him play aggressively on occassion, but Smith, Gibbs, AB, Kemp, Boucher, Pollock..just to name a few...have much better striking ability than him...and it's not something that can just be changed overnight
 
I posted on the other thread on this topic... If India can leave out sachin tendulkar, ganguly and zaheer khan, surely we can leave out kallis and give the youngsters a chance? I mean sachin tendulkar and kallis arent even in the same league... Maybe not currently but tendlkar was a legend.... He was also dissapointed but he never made a ruckus like this

And kallis should not have gone public like this. shows poor judgement. First talk to the board etc. and if they still dont agree, then go public.... He is arrogant though... He believes he deserves a spot in the 20-20 game automatically. It doesnt work that way. He needs to go away work hard and come back and show that he has a brain.... the way he played in the first game against aus was retardedly slow. THEN when we needed a classic slow kallis innings in the semifinal, he goes and tries to slog mcgrath like a fool......
Ganguly was dropped, came back stronger. Same with Zaheer khan. Same with boucher.. If he can stop crying like a baby and accept that he is not the best in the world at all forms of the game, and get over his ego, he should come back stronger.... but thats a big IF...No doubt he is the best batsmen weve ever had by far, he jst needs to play with a bit of heart and drop the attitude...

I was actually a huge suporter of kallis and believed he shoulda been captain. the way he captained against aus when they were here was awesome.. but this is just stupid.... Hes trying to throw his weight around and threaten the selectors by saying he wont play for sa anymore...
He can stuff off if he has that attitude.. no player is bigger than the game.

Lol well put.. We dont know what the australians have hidden in their extremely deep structure.. I'm sure they some HUGE bloody hitters hidden away that they will bring here... And the pakis as well, some of those guys are barbaric and maybe they will fetch some ppl from the taliban camps to hit the bejesus out of our bowlers :D

Wow ive seen that guy's hands and wrists in real life, scary how big it is..

We've only seen our hitters on the local scene. It will actually be exciting to see the new players that arise out of this competition. Instead of seeing the same old guys perform again...
 
Well I agree with u there rendan. Look at the ausie camp too, before WI WC Hayden was gonna be dropped even and then he he turned it around and took teams apart pretty much single handedly saving gilchrist somewhat and others.
 
And im sure if he was dropped....he wouldn't have cried to the press without consulting the Australian Cricket Board.

Although the channels of communication between the players and boards over here isn't exactly top notch

'Rest' may cost Kallis R250 000

The financial implications of being left out of the South African team for the tournament have contributed to the star all-rounder's disappointment, his agent, Dave Rundle confirmed on Tuesday.

The players in the squad will, according to information obtained on Tuesday, receive about R250 000 each to play in the tournament. This apparently does not include any bonuses should they win the title.
 
ye thats a lot of money..... If it is cos of the money, then it is very dissapointing cos im sure he wud have made enuf by now... And he can always play in county cricket for a couple of matches if he wants more dough? How stupid is his agent though? He shouldnt say this to the public cos then every1 will jst say all kallis wants is money...
 
You don't just hop on a plane and go play a "couple of matches" overseas to make money.

It's also pretty unreasonable to think that he's "made enough money" and should just accept his lack of selection based on that.
 
Well the official reason given for him not being selected was that they wanted to rest him. Which was much better than the truth and saying that he just doesn't have the ability to contribute in 20/20.
 
If the pro 20 selection was really all about form, they could just have promoted the whole Lions team to the proteas. :D

And yes, he probably does deserve a place in the 20/20 team.. But only just.. Not an automatic choice and Im so happy he was dropped cos it gives his HUUUUGEE ego a bit of a dent..

Now if only they can dro smith as well :P
 
I think Kallis is a tremendous player and def. an asset for SA but...

He was rested, which isn't a new concept in sport. He was basically given a guarantee that he is part of the SA squad up to the next world cup. Now he complains about something like 20/20. This is only a spectator format. Which just shows it IS all about the money. He need to grow up.

You'd need a contract with a county, plus the relevant visa. That doesn't just happen over night. He's 32 as well, it's not exactly that straight forward to just go overseas to make money. Any case, you can't just decide to play a few games for a county and then come home when it suits you.
