I suppose most of the people on this forum are from the post 1990,s era and are not aware of the previous regime’s policies of mind control by enforcing a total media blackout of any subject or notion that they deemed undesirable. In those days there were not much satellite TV and no Internet so they only had to jam uncontrolled shortwave radio stations and closedown a few newspapers to achieve this. To attempt anything like that today is ridiculous, childish and an insult to every South African!

A discussion was started yesterday about “windows activators”: someone asked where any could be found and to my knowledge no real links were supplied but never the less the whole discussion were removed in its entirety: this is not just typical “old regime” type disregard for freedom of speech but also reeks of hypocrisy because previously a lot of information were obtainable about how and where to obtain the 15$ Windows 8 upgrade even if one did not qualify for it. People did not just talk about obtaining the upgrade illegally but also bragged about it yet those discussions were allowed?

As Tannie Eveta would say: SIES!

Somebody reported the thread and the mods usually just delete without getting too involved.
I blame the cry baby. ;)

Doing the OP a favour here.

Reported as a troll.

Nooit I think the mods were well within their rights to delete. There is a big difference between an illegal activity and exploiting a legal loophole so your comparison isn't fair either.

Bull****: no “illegal” activity took place during the discussion. But if you don’t qualify for an upgrade you have obtained it illegally and if you commit fraud for R150 it is the same as for R750, it still fraud, something that’s acceptable on this site according to the Almightybender but a discussion about activators is not. I have several legal copies of XP and win7 32/64 bit but prefer to use an activator because it’s just easier and does not complain about system changes later. I suppose some people’s perception is just bend.

Um, the dude didn't say he has an issue with downloading or people using illegal stuff. So why so uptight?

If you ACTUALLY read what he posted you would see he is complaining about the ethics of the mods on this forum. A discussion can take place about a loophole on the microsoft website, which as described by OP was technically an illegal purchase if you did not fall with in the terms of use that microsoft specified. People bragged about it in forums and then one guy comes and posts a thread looking for an activator for windows 8 (which was not mentioned whether he was using it on an illegal copy or even a valid legit copy which many people do). Everyone had a hissy fit about it being illegal even though i disagree, not all activators are illegal if you have an original key anyway:?

I agree with OP on this one, think the mods should look into certain reported threads rather than just remove the thread when there are other threads out there that teach people to fraud microsoft. double standards?

Again Cry me a fsucking baby, I know what this is all about and the mods have the right to do what they deemed best for their company.

I am so uptight because my tight jeans are squeezing my balls to a pimp and I hate to read crybaby threads. ;)

Piet, I think you fail to understand the role Mybroadband plays in the South African community. The forums are open to all and sundry, but there are specific rules about piracy and talking about circumventing protection software for nefarious purposes. There are Microsoft reps lurking here and they work for a company that prefers to protect its image and intellectual property. If you were a software developer that included protection measures that could be overcome with an activator, would you want that kind of information floating around? Even if individuals use activators for software that they have the license for, they're still circumventing the EULA because they're working around the protection schemes.

And in addition to that, it shows Mybroadband in a poor light if its generally known that discussions on pirating software take place without some kind of moderation. They currently have good standing with the companies in the local markets and its understandable that they would want to maintain that. We have discussions about torrents and NZBs because no-one here besides the people posting know what kind of content they're downloading. It doesn't change the fact that they may be copying pirated media/software, but that's one particular thing you can't just stop and just like Kim Dotcom's Mega service, there's no way of knowing what's really going on so the mods here employ a "Don't ask, don't tell" tactic.

Don't compare this to the media blackout during apartheid, they really have nothing in common. Will you play the racist card next?
