Disaster at Telkom
Analysts warn that Telkom faces significant challenges, illustrated by its planned R13 billion impairment on Openserve, Telkom Consumer, Gyro, and BCX. [Daily Investor]

Telkom said the business suffered because of load-shedding, low economic growth, high interest rates, and evolving technological advancements.
Pretty much the crux of any modern day business I.e. you F'd it up

They should've courted that MTN deak.. Rain played it perfectly! Mtn just going to scoop it up for cheaper..

Oh, how the mighty have fallen... flat on its face. Remember back in the day when we begged you for naked ADSL and you told us to go fsck ourselves? Yeah, karma's a bitch, innit?
I've always been a bit iffy about how they do business, but honestly, I'm rooting for them to stick around. We totally need more players in the telecom game.

Another Eskom in making.. Telkom must be shut down to avoid more losses.

How? Explain your stupid claim. How is Telkom even remotely connected to Eskom? Or the current SOE?
Stupidity is more in the way how reacted. You all here to chow the money that was supposed to be used for all round development of South Africa. AND for you knowledge, we better know how the telecom industry operates and how this GIANT TELKOM is eating out millions of RANDS. they are not professionally organized & have no future if they don't fix their house. Another debt ridden gem of SA.

No. You are suffering because you had a 2 decade monopoly on any form of digital data transfer, and rather saw fit to gouge businesses and the consumer.
You did buggerall innovation, when back in the early 90's, you were considered to be at the forefront of digital innovation... IN THE WORLD.

I cry no tears for you.
You made our lives' hell.
Additionally, because of your policies and protection, South Africa saw zero mass-scale roll out of data access to the underprivileged areas. This would have been such a boon to basic education and innovation.

You are yet another government sponsored cANCer, that I can't wait to see the back of.

You feeling okay emotionally and mentally?

If I am not mistaken, Telkom is now 100% privately owned (as in not state owned). It doesn’t play a critical role anymore.

So if it goes away tomorrow, their current customers will be somewhat inconvenienced, but they will for the most part have other service providers quite willing to step in.

Not that I am saying that is a good thing in any way, as @BBSA says we need competitors in the market, but it won’t be nearly as big a problem as the likes of Eskom.

They failed because their pricing models were wrong, they failed because they tried to hard to undercut the competition, they failed because they did not know the minimum profit margin needed to stay afloat

And the group that holds the biggest piece of the pie are state or government with 42% ownership. 08 Jan 2023
