Today I have noticed that if I leave my connection idle for any period (e.g 20 minutes) it disconnects. Then when I try to continue, my router has to reconnect. I've checked the logs of my router and it shows the DSL carrier as down. The connection is stable as long as it is active tho'. This has happened throughout today.

Is this a router or Telkom problem?

This is an excerpt of the log:

Sry m8!!

Can't help you too much.

My feeling though is that it is a Telkom problem:

1.) You propably haven't changed your settings
2.) DSL should not disconnect when idle by definition
3.) I've noticed that Telkom sometime work on their servers/exchanges which can cause this.

Is it raining near your exchange? I've found that rain can also cause weird con problems!

Maybe post some details about your connection/isp/modem/setup etc?

G'luck

:)

No setup changes, no rain, no wind, no snow.

I have a D-link DSL-G604T router. Set up for G-Lite. ISP is Mweb - HomeDSL384. Connection shows as FastPath 2Mb/s down-512kb/s up.

Wierd thing is that connection seems to stall only when idle for a reasonably long time.

Possibly Telkom are working on the exchange. I'll keep an eye on it over the next coupla days.

Telkom have had a disconnect when idle after 60mins "feature" for a long time now. It wouldn't surprise me if they had shortened the time.

I don't think that this is the case. I have not had this problem before. There is no reason for them to discon.

Anyhow, it didn't disconnect all night, so maybe they were working on the exchange.
