Discord announced on Monday that it’s rolling out age verification on its platform globally starting next month, when it will automatically set all users’ accounts to a “teen-appropriate” experience unless they demonstrate that they’re adults.

Users who aren’t verified as adults will not be able to access age-restricted servers and channels, won’t be able to speak in Discord’s livestream-like “stage” channels, and will see content filters for any content Discord detects as graphic or sensitive. They will also get warning prompts for friend requests from potentially unfamiliar users, and DMs from unfamiliar users will be automatically filtered into a separate inbox.

From what I understand, Face recognition is only required for features & channels rated as Adult only. As the law do not allow you to get this information for children, and I highly doubt they want to lose that large volume of customers.
 
Well its gonna suck that I cant chat to my console pals anymore then...
 
I'm hoping that many of us won't have to do any age verification because of this statement:

"Additionally, Discord will implement its age inference model, a new system that runs in the background to help determine whether an account belongs to an adult, without always requiring users to verify their age. Some users may be asked to use multiple methods if more information is needed to assign an age group."

I just noticed this has been on my account for a few months (UK) and didn't realise it. So not affecting me at all lol

I am on more than 100 channels, none that have adult restrictions in place. I don't know what is considered "age-restricted" by Discord's standards. I would assume that it is more applicable to NSFW.

From their guideline, which is vague, it applies to 1) mature sexual media, and 2) graphic media. Discord also seems to have built-in protection, allowing users to blur such images, though I don't know how it is being applied by Discord.

Hentai, and what goes along with "cartoon" porn, is popular on Discord. I avoid those channels.

This and other online ID req's have absolutely nothing to do with parenting. That's just the narrative used to reduce push-back,

The real reason is to move away from anonymous web use.

For example, If they really cared about kids, the Epstein files and grooming gangs would not be a thing.
