Discovery Bank will be disruptive

Based on their current client bases, Discovery and Capitec are aimed at different markets.

I'd suspect that there's a significantly negative correlation between Capitec account holders and Discovery customers.

Good luck beating Capitec or FNB with Ebucks...

They already have a rewards program on their Discover card, which is linked to your vitality level.

That already offers flights and other discounts, and they already said a while ago their rewards program will be heaps better than FNB.

As a level 5 pw ebucks person I welcome competition that might make FNB wake up again from their slumber. They have gotten very lazy in the last year or two.

If their service is anything like Discovery Insure's I'd keep very far away.

We noticed you withdrew cash from an atm three times this month. We believe you are buying drugs.

You have lost all rewards for three months

You do realise that you pay for those rewards?

I doubt they will be disruptive to the ones who actually evaluate the offering properly.. maybe 1-2 yrs it will be good but then it won’t. If it’s like their investment offerings then no thanks.

Wonder how they will “disrupt” the market? What would make them different? Branch-less banking?

Sorry, you can only access 10% of your money from this atm, due to the active "bank booster"

To access more, you have to get vitality and combine it with your life insurance product and perform a integration with discovery card. Then go to the gym 17 times and pass a fitness test.

OH, you only went tot the gym 16 times? Unfortunately you have to pay a penalty now, I know it's got nothing to do with banking, but trust us - this is good for you!

Reward wise I get the most from Discovery with a R1000 at least in cash back a month where I spend 5k on my Discovery CC for essentials in BP, Dischem and PnP. On top of that Vitality rewards and Discovery miles with a free Apple watch and paid back for buying my running shoes. Huge discounts on travel and stay. They can only do well imo.

I don't, someone else is as I get about 25-35,000 ebucks a month.

FNB is actually paying me to bank with them.
You're being naiive. Just saying. Every time you swipe your card the merchant pays minimum 6% premium per transaction. Guess who gets that expense passed on to them? Seriously naiive.

Would I pay less at a merchant if I paid cash instead of swiping?

What does transaction fees now have to do with anything? Are you grasping at straws now to stay in the conversation?
