Discovery Credit card - cancel?

I've had this thing as a legacy card for years and years and years ...

I've never used it and it just sits on my wallet while I pay. So looking at cancelling it.

Before I do though, is there any linked benefit or something that I would maybe keep it?

I know many Discovery products are linked and I wouldn't want to lose anything with my life policy or medical aid by canning this thing.

Unless you are on Vitality, thus qualifying for certain discounts, there is no advantage to having a Discovery Card.

Now go cancel your Discovery insurance too. That'll save more moolah.

I don't have the insurance.

But they really do taking their screening questions seriously : they asked my work number and I don't have, so that was a strike.

They asked my last payment amount - exactly - and as I don't recall on the fly, that was another strike.

Apparently the system shuts down and they can't help (unless agent was lazy)

I went through the same being cost cutting.
Cancelled all but 1 card as this is for emergencies only. (hospital deposit etc if ever needed)

Prepare to receive account statements for endless months even though cancelled.

Consider keeping the discovery card open if you still want one card available, their rates aren't bad compared to the other banks.

Yea also cutting costs this side.

Thing is I've kept it as a spare for the last number of years and never needed it. The one time I did need it because my FNB went down and left me with an unpaid bill, Discovery went down at the same time.

I Discovery are R780pa (R65pm) - and then an additional service fee of between R15-R20pm for some reason? so almost R1,000pa. Swiped 3 times this year to keep it active.

So my spare (Diners) is at least with another bank altogether and it similar pricing R840pa

I think the Discovery card can be linked to Uber resulting in cash back benefits. If you're not someone who Ubers regularly though, then it probably isn't worth your while.
