Hey All,

I have a Discovery Silver Credit Card, about to expire. So in my fooling around to try and get a new one, I noticed I can get a Gold Credit card...

Now apart from the color of the card and that the gold is R60 more per year, what are the other benefits of rather having a gold card? Or in general, what is the difference between a silver, gold and platinum card except for the card fee?

With Discovery changing their site, I find that I get taken in circles easily and never get to the correct link....

Can anyone help???

I stand corrected but I think that the Gold card has a higher limit and higher discounts at spend partners.

Even though you might qualify for one, you would still need to apply for it because any upgrade would be subject to the NCA.
 
No benefit. I have a Discovery card too, and have been through this exercise

Your limits are linked to your profile, not card colour- you can earn a million rand a year and have a 6 figure credit limit on a silver card if you want. There is no "cap" where you are forced up to a different card.

Platinum has a few benefits which might be worth the cost to you (wasn't to me), but Silver and Gold are exactly the same except for the price.
 
No benefit. No bigger discounts - thats linked to vitality.
Was offered Plat card but was not worth it and instead went for debit card - same benefits but R18pm card fee (its a credit card with zero limit).
But do have Absa plat package and those benefits are defn worth it for me. Just for me to tell my personal banker to pickup cards for, prints bank statements.... is all worth it - no waiting in line.

all the cards have the same interest rates, withdrawal and banking fees, etc... the only thing i can see different is that platinum members get the 24/7 call centre...

So I'm paying R60 more per year to be able to say i have a gold card and gain street cred..... sounds well worth it....
 
Get Virgin Money Credit card rather. I applied 2 weeks ago and after 4/5 days, I got he card and you don't pay those fees that everyone is complaining about. They offer higher interest on a positive balance. Happy with it so far.

I get R200-R400 cash back on discovery card - and thats spending normally (Pnp + healthy foods, Proshop, Nandos, Look and Listen...)
Covers easily my R18 card fee.:cool:
 
The advantage of a gold card is that waiters know to skim and copy your card instead of some poor shmuck who only has a silver.
 
You pay more so when you pay for meals on your date you have a gold card, it is to ensure the clients of discovery get laid more often and look rich :D.
