Good people,

I noted that Discovery Miles can be converted to Avios points. One mile = one point.

However, the Miles can also be used to pay for Kulula flights and for staying at Tsogo Sun hotels.

Would it be better to convert to Avios points, or to use it as Miles? Or is it neither here nor there? :)

Thanks

Personally prefer to keep them as Discovery Miles, as you can also buy from TakeAlot.com and Kalahari and more shops.

I was considering using the Avios card to fill-up at BP (apparently can be used in conjunction with the VitalityDrive card too), but then I worked out I would need to fill up 9000 litres of petrol before I could get 1 flight... um, so in 90 months, I could afford a flight now... but in 90 months, I'd probably need 18000 litres...

If I had an ABSA credit Card, it would be better, but I benefit too much from DiscoveryCard to consider it.

Look for better Avios exchange rates

I ran some numbers on this once. At one Discovery Mile for one Avios point, it didn't work out to be the best use of Discovery Miles. Occasionally I've seen offers of 1.5 Avios per Discovery Mile; then it is a reasonable deal. Once or twice in the last few years they offered 2 Avios per Discovery Mile. At that rate it was definitely worth converting.
