So when are you going to get one?

so anyone used a 450D with the sigma 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 DG Macro Lens? how would u rate it? yes just for a beginner, don't have professional L lens money as well as other higher priorities :)

you do know that 28-300 becomes 45-480 (in 35mm/FF terms)
a lens that starts at 45mm (in 35mm/FF terms)
is that really what you want?
why not get the 18-55, for now, then see what else you want - later you could get the 55-250

I've used - still use - the 28-300 with a 400D - as does Chau. Nothing wrong with the glass optically as far as I'm concerned - maybe a little soft at 300mm but its not bad. I've had problems with the zoom lock and the zoom went once but its covered by a three year warranty and they sorted it out.

+1
I'm still happy with my lens. It's really versatile, one lens for all your needs. It's a bit narrow on the wide end but great for going away on holiday or for general photo use :)

thanks for the opinions guys. would anyone care to mail me some pics taken with a 450D & sigma 28-300mm combo? both macro and on the long end would be fine.

Both Chau and I have the 400D but if you're still interested I'd be more than happy to post something with that combination.

thanks bwana, subliminalthought. that pixel peeper site is cool. was also considering the sigma 70-300mm APO DG Macro lens. but if my thinking is correct it wont have as much zoom as the 28-300mm. IQ comparison tho, for those on the thread who have used it?

I'm with you on that one, SubliminalThought. The 70-300IS is a hidden gem. The other day I managed to shoot a portrait at 300mm, 1/30s, hand-held.

Why would anyone want the 450D if the better 500D is available for almost the same price?

Thread was started ages ago. I think the current discussion revolves around 450D users and which lenses they would want to mate with the body (altho it is probably the same for all 1.6 factor bodies) rather than purchasing a 450D.

maybe bwana can move this part to a new thread and close this one
Still seems fairly relevant to me

but we can always move the lens discussion later if we need.

of course, my bad, didn't check the thread age.

Perhaps I could ask the question here whether the 500D is a good buy and what lense to use for allround usage?
