Discuss the Canon 450D here!!!

They all use noise reduction - even the D3/D300 Nikons iirc.
 
Whatever it does, it's pretty good for ISO1600. It looks like my 35mm shots at 100ASA!!! :D

As for the 450D - I dont think it has enough going for it that I would want to upgrade from the 400D just for the sake of it.

The switch to SD means buying a whole new set of cards and not being able to have just one pool for both cameras (I've got two that use CF).

That goes without saying.

Only people with old cameras or p&s (if they want SLR) should think about getting this. I have the old 300D from 2003 and I don't want this.

Pooky, please try to understand that you don't have to be brand loyal. Any of these cameras can create GREAT photos. It's about buying what is right for you.

I'll have to wait for a better test than that. Sort of pointless really. If you have Canon lenses and want a camera in that price range, get the 400D/450D. If you have Nikon lenses, get a Nikon. If you you want that lowlight capability, get something else (more expensive).

Yes I know I'm sorry. I tried out other brands and was very impressed with their image quality. (I just felt like trolling).:)

If I ever buy a new camera I would like to try something new like Nikon. The only reason I went with Sony was how it felt... Otherwise I would have gone with Olympus.....
 
I don't see any reason in spending money on an entry level dslr if you're not prepared to buy the lenses. All the 'features' don't merit much change to any of the previous versions. As an ex-owner of a 350D i'd be much happier having a the 300D with a set a good lenses.

I'd even say people "upgrading" to a DSLR should see if they can get their hands on a 350D. It's a darn good camera, and it gives you about £100-200 (vs the 400D or 450D respectively) extra to buy an extra lens.

I'll have to wait for a better test than that. Sort of pointless really.

It was a poorly done test, agreed. I checked out the CR2 files he posted. He didn't even bother to keep the cameras in the same position and use the same exposure (I didn't check the exif, but it doesn't look that way).

I wouldn't say it's pointless thought. More pixels on the same size sensor - I won't be surprised if noise is more apparent.

It comes with a 18-55mm kit lens. If that's all you need, then it's not so bad for a first time digital camera buyer, yes?

they squeeze more are more pixels on to the same size chip
the 5d also has 12mp but it's over a '35mm size' area

sigma's SD14 is 4.7mp (its sensor has a layer for each of the 3 colours) but is almost as sharp as 5d - check out 100% crop:

I read about that. Their new P&S will have it, right? £600 or so for it though, it's rather steep.

I still prefer my 4MP Cybershot S40 image quality over my newer 8MP Cybershot T100. Although, both suck compared to the 40D :D

you call it 4.7 they call it 14.1 - tomato - tomato (ok . . . well that only works when you actually pronounce it but you know what I mean right? :D)
