Disgusting ADSL Latency

It is a sad, sad day when Vodacom-HSDPA provides a better gaming experience than my ADSL connection.

Right now I'm thinking I kill my 4mb account with Axxess, switch a 2mb Uncapped, Unshaped Line on Afrihost which I will use for downloading stuff and use the excess cash to buy an extra data bundle from Vodacom for use with gaming.

Sure, the occasional packet loss spurt is frustrating but it's a lot less frustrating than 800ms ping.

Afrihost and Axxess run on the same backbone, so your problems will just switch from one provider to another

yeah - dont use any ISP on MTN back (slack ) bone.

Openweb is cool and on IS. Using a trial account atm and it looks good.

Afrihost owns Axxess. And I've said this a 1000 times. MTN can't run a network to save their lives. Hell, their DC has less uptime than my home computer!

Get yourself a trial account from MWEB (pm MWEB Guy) and check it out for a week or so before killing off your entire line.

Your latencies are as high as those typically seen on a congested exchange, which would mean that changing ISP account would have almost no effect.

Test your line properly before blasting at Telkom -- looks like your problem could just as easily be an IPC congestion with only MTNNS (the data being resold by your ISP) to blame
If your pings and speeds are still horrible (and you are 100% certain that nothing else is utilizing your ADSL line) while using the above configuration, THEN you have a case against Telkom for exchange congestion.

Well, tested with the telkom guest account. Seems like my problems are two-fold:

250ms to 300ms on the first hop would seem to indicate that I am on a congested exchange.

However, it doesn't help that Axxess/Afrihost have also screwed the pooch.

Because what I really need added to that 250ms exchange congested is another 250ms...

And in case you're wondering, I have got open tickets with telkom about my exchange...
