PATHETIC !!!! This is a local site with a latency of 140ms, U have got to be joking. Now is this Telkom's fault or Datapro's fault I wonder ?

Mweb is even worse, how can South African Broadband internet users work with disgusting service like this........

Telkom cannot justify these pings. Gaming through this kind of latency would be virtually impossible. Or prehaps it's local shaping rearing it's ugly head.

I agree 100%.

There is no reason for any local ping > 50ms and international ping > 200ms.

According to your first tracert example (datapro), you can exactly see where the bottelneck is - the peering link between Telkom and Datapro. But with bandwidth costing a premium no wonder the latency is so bad, the circuits are running near maximum most of the time.

UUnet's link is the best so far at +-80ms. BUT still its BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD ......

It's a shame the only way to have reliable local pings (espcially for gaming) is having a SAIX ADSL ISP.

And if the server you are going to connect to is private, lets say um UUnet's ADSL offering and the peering link is over used, you may get almost unplayable latency.

Telkom's ATM infrastructure is not sufficient for South African needs.

I've been having some huge latency problems as well as packet loss this morning, but it appears to be dealt with. My ping to a forum site was 200+ with 25% packet loss, but 17ms to www.saix.net. The ping to the forum site is now back at the usual ~150ms.

I'm willing to bet it is more than sufficient. Couldn't it be blamed on the peering links not providing enough bandwidth ? I say this because my ping to www.saix.net remained at the usual low 16 - 18ms...
