Dishes and washing up.

I have a poorly laid out house whereby I have no readily available hot water in my kitchen. The faucet runs 10 to 15 minutes in which I rinse my cutlery and crockery to the point that washing them will actually be fruitless.

Then I fill my sink quarter to half full with nice warm water and boil another kettle for the top up when I reach the dishes stage, Routine is Glass, Cups and then dishes.

On this day I though to reinstate the old dishwasher...
She was a new addition somewhere in the 80' and was only used twice due to not cleaning the dishes well and due to the second use, the drainpipe slipped out and we had an indoor pool where the kitchen used to be.
 
UPDATE:

well with not using something in 30 years might have some maintenance requirements.

Connected all the piping again and opened the dedicated supply tap. Everything seems in order except there seems to have sprung a natural fountain in my kitchen under the cupboard.

Well move everything and get the mop out.

Seems the rubber inlet pipe was perished and not even connected to the machine anymore. Washing machine had a spare and field-stripping was the order of the day.
 
Update:

Well water is where is should be now for once. Maybe just do a couple of runs to clean out the machine. Can't hurt I figure.

Switch it on. and the main power distribution board decides to switch it self off. This is not looking good.

Well tried everything again and now its working.

I don't have any soap to actually clean it with. I'm thinking a few drops of sunlight liquid might just rinse this antique washing-ma-thingy out.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT USE SUNLIGHT LIQUID IN A DISHWASHER!!!

Now I'm sitting with something that looks like a rabies infected Suricate, foaming around the mouth and I have to mop the floor... AGAIN!

Hahaha never use a foaming cleaner in a dishwasher or an automatic washing machine.

Good luck. Hopefully you off on Monday because you'll need the day to fix all your damages.
 
Have you considered paper plates and a spork?
 
Update:

Did 3 wash cycles and the foaming is starting to subside. Must be high quality Sunlite liquid that.

Now to tackle the dirty dishes part. Now I did no pre-rinse on any of the dishes and left everything as dirty as possible.
Deep fried some chips and made burgers, Pretty messy.

Every thing came out squeaky clean. Even the cooking oil stained glasses.Found a soap brick that I used to wash with. seems after a few decades it still works. The machine and the soap. I wonder if the Sunlite made a difference?

OP you are meant to run it a few times even when brand new.

So it's no surprise it didn't work properly the whole two times you use it.

Get Finnish.
 
The dishwashing salt that is used to soften the water could have weakened/corroded the reservoir after months/year of no use. Be aware of the possibility of another leak. :(
