Disk On Module SSD's

So I ended going with a 2GB SLC based CompactFlash card and a PC104 IDE to CF converter card in PC104 format, cost me R400 from Centurion Micro Electronics. I will get it cloned with the original and installed at the weekend.

I get 512MB DoM's from these guys. I'm sure they could source larger ones if you asked nicely ;)

At those prices those 2gig Transcend modules are real game changers for, say, SmoothWall/IPCop boxen! ...and that Seagate hybrid disk just TOTALLY took the shine off my (HA!) shiny new 250gig 7200rpm drive I've got lined up for my notebook, dammit!

Perhaps get a IDE to CF (compact flash) converter. Bought a whole bunch of them from dealextreme (sku-7001 if I remember) a few months ago fairly cheap (<R30 ea). CF memory is also fairly cheap and available.

Thanks, just checked them out but they seem expensive!

As I said in my post #8, that's exactly what I did. I probably could have waited and got them cheaper, but just needed to get this machine back up and running quickly.
