Disney buys Pixar for 7 billion

This will make Steve Jobs one of the biggest individual shareholders in Disney and provide him some major clout and leverage with the Hollywood studios to distribute content via iTunes.

I just hope the quality of Pixar's animation films don't go down the drain.

Wouldn't he only be able to distribute content with Disney rather than all the other major Hollywood studios?

I really doubt it as one of Steve Jobs first acts as interim Apple CEO was to replace the folks at Apple working on the old Mac OS with his own people from NextStep.

I don't think it'll effect the movies too much, they're already exclusively distributed by Disney. As I understand it, it's a desparation move from Disney. They have no in house CGi lag and have always just used Pixar, but Pixar has been wanting to go on their own for ages, which means Disney would lose Billions.

Disney did have their own in house CGI animation team, but the movies they produced (Dinosaur, Chicken Little) sucked. Meanwhile Pixar has yet to produce a clunker.

Chicken Little was a rare box office success for them.

They have made another CGI movie "The Wild" featuring a Lion and Giraffe living in a city zoo and except for a hippo they now have a Koala bear which is a Madagascar ripoff .

Ha, the /. crowd have come up with some gems.

According to some posters, one of Jobs' new tasks will be designing new rides for the theme parks, like the "...Reality Distortion Coaster...", "... an acid trip ride, something Alice and Wonderland style..."

He bought Pixar for 10 million dollars from George Lucas because he needed money quickly to finance his divorce settlement and his investment netted him (50.6% Pixar shareholder) about 3.5 billion worth of Disney stock.
