Display Location On Google Maps

Hi guys,

What are the rules regarding displaying a location on google maps for an internal system?

We gather GPS location data via our tracking service provider's web api.
The data is not used extensively to view the location, but primarily to calulate distances via our proprietary routing server. But sometimes the operator would just quickly want to check visually where the asset is located. So, then we want to redirect the operator to google maps with the marker at specified GPD co ordinates.

So my question is, does this fall under the free use policy or do we need a license for such use?

Thanks in advance

Read the free use policy. If you're unable to understand that, I suggest hiring a lawyer to quickly do it for you and give you legal advice. Unfortunately my advice might not be legally sound and I don't have the time to read through the end-user agreement/licenses provded by Google for you

Thank you, but I did read the policy. It does not state anywhere what the usage limit is when redirecting to the actual google maps website. It only sets the limits for the API.

Asset Tracking
Apps or websites that track and monitor the position of people and/or things.

ASSET TRACKING USE CASES

Premium Plan: Asset Tracking use cases require a Premium Plan regardless of the platform you develop for.

That seems pretty clear. There would be no free limit available to vehicle tracking.

This is my opinion however. Going through the exact same thing, so will post clarification when legal gives it

Thanks. I suppose that answers my question. So it seems I am going to have to host my own tile server :-(

For anyone interested, I just spoke to a google rep (from dublin) and the answer is YES, you need a premium api plan, even if just displaying the odd location of a person/thing/asset/vehicle. So now I am awaiting the quote "tun, tun, taaaa"

Perhaps OpenStreetMap is a better choice then?
