Disposable income

They don't have 3/4 of Zim and 1/2 of Moz claiming to be South African citizens without work.

Lower cost of living? People buy stuff from the market and street vendors instead of supermarkets? The qty of second hand clothes and acceptability of them.

I always found it a bit unique by African standards how rare in SA veg markets are, so many buy from Spar...which is way costlier. And am used to low incone people dressed up in brand name clothing (Nike, Addidas) bought at a fraction of the price

Stuff costing less doesn't explain higher disposable income. Remember if you're paying less then that shop owner gets less...and by extension his/her disposable income is reduced.

Yeah decent markets are hard to find in SA suburban areas...and the ones that exist cost about the same as Spar

Data is from numbeo, which comes from people that visit the site, which already cuts down to a very specific part of the population. There are also no number like how many people per country actually entered the data, for all we know there is 1 entry from zambia.

As opposed to the general market in Africa that costs less than half the price. Also when you have high living cost, the average peon has more to spend , and there are millions of them, as opposed to shop owners who will tend to spend on higher end items, and have to pay rent and other stuff and so their disposable income will be much less. A lot of shop owners in SA are barely breaking even, do no disposable income
