Hi all,

I recently did a TransUnion and Experian Credit Check (the free ones) and have picked up some small discrepancies that are showing. Mainly accounts that have been closed still show.

I see that there is a dispute process that I can access with TransUnion, is this a free service? What is the best way to go about rectifying these discrepancies?

Free process.

It is long. Messy.

Get your facts in order.

All supporting documents should be in order too.

Once this is done, your profile can be amended accordingly.

Sigh

Any preferred ppl to go with? Transunion, Experian etc etc

The above and XDS.

One would think that they access the same database and update accordingly.

Errors made will have to be taken up with the bureaus individually.

Basically if you have disputes with all 3, you would have to submit docs to all.

oh boy!

With something like a CC that was closed and is still reflecting how do you go about proving this?

Do they show as closed or are they still open?

Either way, closed account will still show for 2 years because they reflect your payment history.

If an account is closed and marked as C on the credit report, should it not be moved?

I had an incorrect "missed payment" indicator in the middle of a loan.

Transunion refused to correct it - they claimed that I had to do their job and follow up with Wesbank to resend the data.

It's an evil bureaucratic system with no way to opt out.

The Credit Ombud is the next step of issue resolution...
