Dissapointing SA news media???

:( Just listened to a voice clip on a popular "I think" newspaper site.
This go me thinking about the disappointing state of the press in South Africa.

Firstly the headline was misleading i.e. "Listen how Duarte slams a journalist for asking a question". When you listen to the clip she merely puts him in in his place for making a rather pathetic, pointless and childish remark about Zuma. I don't like the man or the values he or his party seem to stand for but I would expect better journalism from an established newspaper.

This brings me to the second point; that of "join the bandwagon" mentality of the news media. I for one am tired of the old "lets flog a political party" rhetoric.
Why do you want to buy a newspaper when the only political update you are going to get are in one of these three categories:
1. Malema shooting his mouth off embarrassing the collective spirit, intellectual rigor and dignity of the human race.
2. A plethora of political parties committing character assassination on each other "verbatim" ad infito ad nauseum.
3. An update on the life of Zuma's doings and scre*ings aka Dallas style every 5 minutes of it.

Does the media in South Africa lack complete creativity??

I use to enjoy keeping abreast with current affairs but the monotony of it all is overwhelming to say the least.

I am not a journalist, politician, newspaper owner or a particularly intelligent guy but for gawds sake guys and girls (read news media) do you have to dish out the same main meal of the day every day for months and months and years on end?
How about some pudding; a fresh angle on the state of political affairs, a different point of view from your competitor and lest not forget a headline that should be a true reflection on the content of the article.

I for one is not surprised that people are not spending money on newspapers any longer. I also prefer to realise the headline was misleading on my laptop and on my couch instead of the disappointment going out or stopping by to get a newspaper.

By calling him racist...then retracting it and stating if he wasn't black he would be a racist...and then deciding that he actually could be racist even if he was black. Nevermind the "mysterious 3rd force" comment. If anything it showed the mentality that I think almost all the top anc officials share. Rather scary.

Said clip was posted here and I for one think she was a smidge over reactive. He didn't accuse Zuma of being unable to read he was asking if Zuma read his own blog. She then flew off the handle.... called him racist, classist and accused him of being part of the Third Force. That imaginary force the ANC is so paranoid about.

With that class of subject it's no wonder th media in SA keeps reporting on it. It's done all over the world! If she had been interviewed by a reporter from lets say one of the big U.K. newspapers, SA woud be the laughing stock of the world, if it isn't already...
 
My view was more about the press in South Africa in general and not about one article specifically. I saw the thread on Duarte after I posted.

Rapport's frontpage today is the same of 2 weeks ago.The article practically a carbon copy.

Your party can clean its tracks all you want... its all going to come out... specially from the mouths of fools in the ANC... and there are many :eek:
 
why i only buy the MG when i feel like getting a paper, the only worthwhile buy out there. well imho anyways.

I really don't care what you think my affiliation is.As for the rest of your post...its off topic,which makes it pointless to reply.
 
Yeah, I agree, South Africa in general and the government in particular, has indeed become the 'laughing stock' of the world. I am German residing in SA (for guite a few years now) and with my last visit home, just about every meeting I've attended, I had to 'force' my self to laugh. Actually I was laughing and thinking 'Huh, and I am going back there next week'. I only can imagine the giggles 'behind the scenes', when ANC + Zuma visit EU/Germany. I hope for South Africa's part, he will 'restrict' himself to mostly African State visits :D

I think the ANC meets monthly for their word or catchphrase of the month; they then go all out to see how often they can use that word in a sentence over the next 30 days.

Once again, this month its is "third force".

One of my more favourite words was "bolt", followed by "sabotage".

Another one they've used in the past is "coconut" - always a good laugh.

And lest we forget "xenophobia", that was the month "third force" was introduced to us for the first time.

I think they tried "bourgeoisie" in the past but found it too difficult to pronounce?
 
A Third Force?

Interesting. Sounds like something the apartheid government would have said during the 70's and 80's about the UDF or any other anti-apartheid mechanism.

Government paranoia creates some interesting possiblities.

The plot thickens.

LOL...you pointing that out makes me think of the Bush administration and their constant raising of the "danger rating" to keep people in fear. This sort of makes me think of the same thing....there is some "third dark force" that want to sabotage the country and take it back...LOL:D
 
The problem is this..SA POLITICS IS 100% KARK AND THERE ARE NO REAL VIEWS OR REALISTIC HOPE OFFERED BY ANY OF THE BOZO PARTIES..KARK..ALL OF IT. ..nuff sed :(

Can a news publication not come up with creative ideas for differentiating themselves from their competitors? :confused:I would not know how but I am sure if they get together and do a bit of a brainstorming session they can identify some gaps in the mainstream media.

I still buy the MG every now and again for their in depth analysis of a specific political situation.
I just feel the papers are all the same, same rhetoric, same issues, same front page, repetitive stories. I often see the same story in a different disguise in the same paper :sick:.

Misleading headlines is a gripe for me, if a newspaper have to print a topic with a headline completely unrelated to the content it does not seem quite ethical.

Maybe you are seeing the same story because the politicians are doing the same dumb things. And the ANC ones are the worst - if one does something dumb, they all do. I believe that it is written into their constitution.
