Good day me fellow broadband-ites, or broadband-ians. or.........yeah

So I have a question to all the resellers there. I have applied at computerwholesalers.co.za to bring in some hardware for my online store that I will be opening in a few weeks, however, I tested him out by placing a mock order and well, it was less than satisfactory. Took 2 days to reply to my quote. sigh. Then there is the 3% handling charge if taking the free option. And as you all know, the markup on pc components is extremely slim. So that hurts....a lot.

I have applied to fontosa, corex, rectron, esquire, etc etc. Waiting to hear from the majority of them. I have been approved by frontosa though. However, they won't deliver to my address. I stay in vereeniging. It doesn't fall within JHB.

computerwholesalers do however ship to me for about R75, and they will also ship to the end-user. What I would like to know is the following,

What distributors do you know of that will ship to vereeniging? As in for mahala? I have an account with another reseller that does, and he is located at the coast. So I don't see why frontosa and the like wouldn't.

With the price of petrol, and the inclusion of the e-tolls, if they ever happen, It will cost a fortune to get the goods to the end-user. Somehow I doubt it will be worthwhile for me to even take that route. Perhaps a courier company to fetch at their premises? As in something like fastway?

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Hello There

I cannot speak for other distributors but we do deliver anywhere in the country by means of courier services , what we did find that it would be better if you arrange the courier yourself from your location and negotiate a rate with them to collect.

We do use Specialised Freight Services as our official couriers services and Internet Xpress for our Online orders , we used Fastway and withdrew from using them as they never deliver on time and too many issues with them.

Also I can suggest that if you starting up why not look at our Virtual Reseller Network see the video here if you starting up , where you do not even have to carry any stocks

We also just started with a new advert campaign in local and national daily newspapers , Online and social networks to drive traffic those VRN resellers sites see the advert we did this week on www.buynow.co.za and it is zero cost to you when you are part of the Reseller Network.

My Suggestion is also to visit our Xpress Stores in Midrand to get some ideas on what to stock up if you are opening a shop front , we will be open on 16th June 2012 which is public holiday

Let me know if my retail team can be of assistance

EDIT the www.buynow.co.za site is loading the data refresh in few minutes

Chat to Silvrav from the Carbonite forums,he organizes collect and delivery couriering

I also think getting your own courier would be a good option. At the end of the day, the cost to deliver to you as to come from somewhere. If its "free", someone is paying that at the end of the line, possibly you in the pricing of the hardware.

Plus its better to have full control of the who delivery process. I use Courier Guy pre-paid account and they are great.

If we resell products available at Esquire, are you able to directly deliver to our customers without the Esquire invoice so they don't know markups?

Yeah from what ive seen a while back in regards to the VRN they include your invoice.

Problem with esquire is the stock they carry. No offence to esquire at all but it's just not what I will be carrying.

That is how the VRN system works , your client gets your invoice from you that you generate from the system once he places his order with you and pays you , the courier co collects from our branches and delivers directly to your client.

no offence taken as we also learning from this experience as it is a world first concept , but have you actually seen that Online Site recently, we added Logitech, The full range of Microsoft hardware in the next few weeks , we added Samsung , LG , we added cartridges, and Toners and all the brands that the VRN clients request, but don’t expect us to add Sa…ra brands , over the next few weeks we also going to remove all the no name brands as we want the VRN online stores to become premier Online sites with goods brands.

You must understand that there is no other model like this anywhere in the world , there is currently no test cases and any intelligence or information on anything similar , so what we doing in on trial and error basis on the product mix with the information we get from our Resellers.

Please dont misunderstand me. I think the concept is brilliant. And the execution. Like I said its just the brands that you carry make me look elsewhere.

I dont think there is any 1 supplier that can offer a complete solution. With all that being said I would still love to purchase certain peripherals from your branch. Will most certainly have a business arrangement with Esquire.

I don't make many sales with Esquire though as I use multiple companies depending on who has what at the best price. So was wondering if you offer what I asked on a normal acc. How much does the VRN system cost though? Not sure if it's viable considering how many purchases I make.

I am going to brutally honest. As an existing online dealer with many years experience i can say that your labours will be better spend elsewhere. The margins is extremely low, the competition is fierce and growing, the stuff break down and it take an immense amount of time just keeping the prices updated not even loading new stuff.
If you have money to support you a few years to get established and build up a brand presence then go for it, otherwise get into something else.
