DIY Desktop cover?

Hi guys and ladies.

I've got a PC that doesn't have a side cover.
The dust level is a bit high at my place and there's a lot of little bugs at night.

I'd like to make a cover to protect against dust and bugs.

Would perspex suffice if cut down to size?
Should I drill holes in the perspex for airflow, or will it defeat the purpose of keeping dust out?

If you have another suggestion, please let me know.

Hmmm, you could cut a hole in a panel or build a frame and cover it with something from a fabric store - from coarse netting to very fine netting. Will let air in but keep insects and some dirt out. Or drill holes in the perspex and plug with cotton-wool like little clouds.

My English fails me with your post.

What do you mean a cover from a fabric store? Like literal fabric, cloth?
Netting like shade netting?

Yes - cover the frame with fabric, cloth, netting etc. Keep insects out but still let air in.

Sounds like a weird solution, but I appreciate your input.
It's boiling hot here, so I definitely need airflow.

I think that cloth is going to get dirty real quick. Depending on how the original side fit into the case perspex might be the easiest with some brackets.

Ja I guess I was imagining using the cloth like a replaceable filter. So:

Frame with a cutout.
Place cloth over cutout.
Screw down second frame to hold cloth in place.

That way can easily replace every now & then & keep a fair bit of dust out.

Thanks guys,

It's a standard tower, not that large.
I might get the perspex free, folks I know that work with it.

Would you still suggest the cloth and filter route? Or would perspex do a better job?
If perspex is better, should I drill holes?

Perspex is fine.. use some shade net as dust filter if you decide to drill holes and make sure it's removable for cleaning..

Take a photo and post it here so we can see what existing ventilation is there.

I will take one tomorrow. Thanks.

Like my case has ventilation top, front, back and bottom. So there is no need for ventilation to the side. Also the CPU fan blows/sucks towards the front and back. There are nice filters over all the fans. Top fans suck the air out, so don't think there are filters there.

Thanks RV and everyone.

This is overkill for my solution/pocket though, but I get that you are sharing.
I've had a scorcher of a day here, so didn't take a pic.

With the confirmation about the perspex that will work and venting with filters gives me enough room to work with.
If I get stuck, I will ask for help again. ;)
