DIY Flash and Lighting Hacks for Digital Photographers

As seen on digg.com

So far I've made my own light box and messed around with some impromptu diffusers but some of these look like fun.

@Bwana - so, is today D day to get you up and snapping again?? (400Dfrom B&H). What has happened to your broken 400D - did you get any joy from Canon/Cameratech?

You going to love me, I sold my 400D lock stock and barrel and got a Pentax D100 S. Can get lenses for the Pentax 2nd hand... Really like it a lot.

Sold the Canon to my nephew at a more than ample discount - he is in 7th heaven!!

Yeah - new camera and lens arrives this evening so I'm pretty psyched. Also arriving is a kid's digital camera for the three year old. Still havent got a quote back from Canon SA about the damaged one so not sure if it will be repaired or replaced.

I cant find your new camera on dpreview.com - are you sure about the model number? My friend just bought the Pentax K100D Super - an ok camera for a beginner (which he is) but I'd soon outgrow it.

Umm, thats the one. (getting confused with the D prefix and suffix and throw in a K and I'm confussed).

Situation was like this - I was not entirely chuffed with the 400D - the LCD would not switch off automatically when I looked thru the viewfinder as I wear glasses and also that it has no built in stabilisation and IS lenses are pricey.

The idea was to get a top of the range P&S (Canon S5 or G9) but since there was no stock I settled for the SX100 (Excellent camera - full manual functions, IS and 10x zoom).

Played around with it for a week and decided that dSLR was muuuch better and then managed to get the Pentax new for R5k (special price with kit lens). The Pentax has built in stabilisation (which really works well).

Will definately hang onto the SX100 though - great camera for happy snappies.

I still miss the 300D body though - had a nice 'feel' and size to it.

My next camera . . .I hope :)

IS . . still not sold on it - I mostly take photos of moving subjects so a faster lens is always going to appeal to me more.

Bwana, how does the Sigma 24-135/2.8-4.5 ASP IF grab you as a all round - walk about lens...
I can also consider the Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC which has a nice wide angle but the 135mm has a f2.8.
I have only used the 18mm to photograph a blue gum tree on my property - it was the only way to fit it in...

@ bwana - thanks - will look at it to get some general ideas :)
Hope you find something useful :)

I dont know any of those lenses - in the sigma range I've got the 28-300 f/3.5-6.3 and I love it. It's usually the lens you'd find on my camera (at least until the canon 70-200 f/4 arrived tonight :)). Read as many reviews as you can on those lenses.
