After really poor service from Bsmart, along with a whole lot of lies about how I would save money on my phone bill by signing up with them I have decided to tell them to come and take their switchboard out of my company and install an old switchboard I got from my father in law.

He recently upgraded his switchboard because one of the incoming lines on this one is blown. It has 3 working ones and I only need 2 so it should be perfect for my needs.

Its a Samsung SKP-816H. I have found some manuals online for a Samsung Prostar 816, I cannot find any reference to the SKP so I assume that they are the same. Can anyone confirm?

So... What am I taking on?
The wiring of the stations part I can handle, thats no problem... but .. there are a whole lot of wires coming out of these two thick cables on the side of the thing... that kinda scares me... how do I know what is what?
Do I need special equipment? I have a crimp tool that does RJ45 and RJ11.
I am sure I am going to need some phone jacks and some cable, any suggestions on where I can pick this up? Cable link?

eish

Alternatively, who does this kind of installation?
What can I expect to pay?

Wha.....? I understood pabx and pc..... trixbox sounds like a gameshow about hookers....

Edit -

Ok googled trixbox (no hookers btw :( ) and I'm intrigued. what are these cards you speak of? how much do they cost and what kind of pc ( power wise) would you need for this...

How much would it cost to set something like this up?

Ok so after realising that installing a switchboard aint no diy thing and after getting a quote of R5k to install the thing I have decided that Trixbox might be an option...

It seems that buying a new pabx system will cost me about R21k (although the installation is free on that :p)

So I'm thinking that I can put a pc together for about R5k or so and if the cards are not too expensive (maybe a grand each I'm hoping) I can put this thing together for about 10k, and have a little fun doing it.

Anyone done this before?? I'm gonna need a little advise....

I have two lines and 5 extentions..
I have two gigasets I would like to put onto two of them if possible

thats not too bad, I will keep that in mind if the trixbox thing turns out too expensive or too much work

I just found "Trixbox made easy.pdf" :D

Sure thing I can put you in touch with a guy at Samsung HQ, sure he can help. Maybe he has a 2nd hand one for a lot less.

I would appreciate that...
