DIY Nokia firmware update implications?

dont think so....just make sure your battery is fully charged so your phone doesnt switch off in the middle...:P

and if you use the wallet note that the new firmware does not have it

Mine has the wallet after I updated which phone do you have mines the 6680

You will still have your wallet, but once you restore your backup, your wallet contents will not be there. Suggest you make manual notes of your wallet contents first.

Are there any warranty or other implications by doing DIY Nokia firmware updates (eg from http://www.nokia.co.uk/softwareupdate)?
These guys do repairs on Nokia and SE phones. If you go early in the morning they do the phone while you wait. Be prepared to drink lots of free coffee. They Upgrade the software for free apparently! While I was there for repairs many guys only had their firmware upgraded! If the phone is corupted due to upgrade they can sort it out too.

Thank you for the responses / comments, couldn't resist the DIY option so I did the upgrade, apparently successfully, and am now busy with the restore of the backup...

I updated my N70's firmware. Please remember to backup everything on your phone, as updating firmware basically restores it to factory settings, with a newer firmware.

Once the firmware has been upgraded, will PC Suite still recognise it as the same phone and restore all data? Mine advises that only certain data was restored, not specifying what was left out. All my wallet info is now missing. I have a Nokia 6680.

Where do you guys get the firmware to upgrade you nokia's,in my case, N80 and 6600.please advise to where I can get the firmware or which site I must download it from? Thanx

You can't upgrade those phones via Nokia site. N80 apparently will be available later and you should be able to do it via WAP. As for the 6600 you need to do that via a service centre as a special cable is needed - the 6600 will not be supported by the nokia online update as far as I know.
You could however go the hack route but there are no guarantees that you won't end up with a brick.

Ag man I'll wait, just that my N80 freezes sometimes in gallery_images & video
then I must reboot phone , only now and again. Thanx anyway.

Almost sounds like phones are becoming like a Microsoft operating system
