DIY Paradox alarm: add another wireless sensor

A delightful gentleman (of whom I have had the pleasure of meeting, once) has taken the habit of scaling my wall and testing if the car doors are unlocked. My car, unfortunately, doesn't auto-lock, and last night I left it unlocked. My night visitor got away with around R5 in coins, but he threw everything that was in the car around (old CDs, the car's log book, various kids toys.. etc), and my dogs, who have an incredibly acute sense of when a random rat is running around in the back garden, apparently have no sense of when a bergie is in the front garden.

I want to add a new "beam" in the front in a place that will cover the area where my visitor climbs over the wall. The cars (we have two, parked in line) block the front garden beams, so he's worked out the weak spot.

I have a Paradox system. I am in Cape Town.

1) Can I just buy any "beam" (or whatever the wireless motion detection thing is called) - or do I need specific ones for my system?
2) Can I add the new "beam" to my paradox alarm myself, or do I have to fork out for an "expert" to do it? If so, how?


EDIT - possibly in the wrong forum, but its kind of a gadget... right?
 
I’ve used roboguard in the past. And they’ve worked really well. I know you can integrate it with a house alarm system, but did not do it , the noise it makes will waken the dead
 
I installed a paradox pmd85 wireless beam myself. I have an ip150 and used babyware to do the install. Was quite simple actually. Know idea how to do the install if its not the same brand or you dont have an ip150

Some of the other beams it's a little more complex, I have various makes.
e.g
TAKEX beam -> Paradox Wireless door Contact (in beam housing) -> Panel
 
I installed my own Paradox MG5050 alarm system at home with 9 different wireless sensors. It's really easy to do if you have the Winload or Babyware software. Your alarm system needs to have the IP module installed though so you can access the control panel through your home network. Then you just connect from your laptop using the software and change the necessary settings. You also need the master password, which might be a problem if your alarm system was installed by someone else.
 
Not providing any value here, but why do you leave your car door unlocked? It sounds like you know who it is, so have a altercation with him of the physical kind involving pipes or bats or tasers.

Because I am ****ing stupid? Well, yes, I am. Treating my wall as a sufficient barrier to some **** who has learnt my home security is not perfect is actually pretty ****ing stupid.

Also it's a bergie; I have no idea where to find him to have a gentle conversation. Somewhere in Salt River....

Thanks. Alarm was installed by ADT; I imagine they use a default username/password. I'll have to check on the IP module, and if it doesn't exist maybe buy one.

If you have to check if you have one, you probably dont
 
I was not home when the system was installed, but yes, I think you are right.
 
The beam will simply occupy one of your zones on the alarm panel. Check out http://alarmtec.co.za/ for different options. You will probably not have an IP module as they are not standard and around R1500 for the units. If you want to program the unit only and not use the internet functionality you can use a simple usb serial cable instead of the IP unit.

ADT installed a Paradox? I thought they were a big DSC house.

What about an Electric fence to add more deterrent or barb wire?

If he runs up to the car door and opens it or breaks a window and grabs and runs, I'm not sure how much you're going to be able to do when he sets your alarm off and until you've responded to it going off?

The alarm system was there when we bought the house; ADT just added a few sensors when we renovated recently.

I want an electric fence (and it was supposed to be part of the renovations, but alas, we ran out of money.) When I can afford it again, I'll put one up.

The guy is into petty theft. We don't leave anything valuable in the car, so he's not going to smash a window. He steals the coins (oh, and apparently a USB drive that I use for the music).

Anyway, as a temporary plan, I've moved a sensor from a place where there was an overlap and put it up on the drive way so it should catch the ****er as he climbs over. The last time he went a little too far up the driveway, he triggered the beam there, he fled over the wall pretty fast (I saw him departing) so I'm hoping the same thing will happen... just a bit earlier. He's not ventured that far again.

I'm also considering gluing razor blades with the edges not visible from the road on the gate support structure that he uses as a handhold.
 
Sorry to resurrect this thread. I would like to add another PMD 85 using my keypad. I have 2 zones. Zone 1 is inside the house, zone 2 is outside. This PMD must be assigned to zone 2 (there are 4 other sensors in the zone).
Please can someone tell me how to do it? Thank you
