last time i posted in this forum a 100 people approached me selling me their companies and service. lets see what happens this time.

i have let's say 5 people at head office that needs to phone 1 or 2 people per branch accross about 8 branches. so basicall inter-branch calls via existing wan.

what is cheaper, ip phones or a device that connect to my lan and a few plain handsets connect to this device?

i suppose i will also need some kind of server? asterisk/trixbox? which easier to learn/setup/maintain?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

so i done a bit more research.

if i want to connect 4x analogue phones to a device i would need a device with 4x FXS ports. correct?

then the phones would get dial tones and would be able to ring. and at the branches i would need a device with 1 or 2 fxs ports.

so how do i get the whole thing to work. is it just settings on this device that needs to be set like telephone numbers and routes to the remote devices?

Yes; Quintum AFG400

With use of a SIP Server; Asterisk; or a Quintum SSG Gateway - not what is really developed for but it works 100%.
Or if you have a VPN across all branches or a MPLS you can consider H.323

Rather use BRI lines instead of analogue lines. You get 20 numbers behind a BRI. deals better with lightning. We build Asterisk based voip solutions for SMEs...
