With the coming of OS 6 to 9700 and the removal of file size download limits, i have been downloading alot on my phone.

The first thing i noticed between OS5&6 was that on OS5 i had a peak download speed of 250kb/s and average 220kb/s
With upgrading to OS 6 i found that i averaged 200kb/s

This speed has been declining steadily to the point of 160kb/s at best,100-120(normal) and as low as 43kb/s last night.

Is anybody else seeing this trend or is it just me?

Your download speed has absolutely nothing to do with the handset or the OS itself. Its purely network as the phone itself supports 3.6Mbps which is a real world download speed of 460kbps max so even at the start of your stats your far under speed. Personally here in my are i have maxed at 130kbps on both my 9500 and 9300 using OS5 or now OS6 and if its doing such serious drops to 43kbps that in itself should be a clue as to it not being the handset. Its most likely just network congestion.

The more people connecting to your tower the slower your maximum speed will be.

cool got that
disagree with the OS5 vs 6 thing - the speed is slower (dont understand y but it just is)
anybody have an answer as to y?

i do agree with the tower usage, i have noticed a change of up to 45kb/s

has anybody checked their download speed in sandton, apparently some ultra high speed optimized network operating ...

Your OS has nothing to do with your network speed, its like saying adsl is faster on linux than on windows.

I got other friends with berry's some on OS6 others on 5 and we all get similar speeds on 3G, compared seperate locations as far as 20km apart and as they all work in the same shop its easy to test when we all using the same tower and on 3F we all get between 110 and 135 which is an acceptable varience with internet speeds.

1 of them is using a 9700 with OS5 still.

If it were the OS then us OS6 users should have a major varience like the one your describing.

Firstly bis only uses 3G, not hsdpa. The slower speeds are the result of more people using blackberry, when your network upgrades their connection to Rim's servers then speeds will increase again. I've experienced this cycle a number of times over the last two years and it will keep happening until blackberry stops growing in SA. This was one of the main reasons I left Blackberry last year, you're completely at the mercy of your network with regards to speed and quality of service. Which network are you with?

And your timing with the upgrade is coincidental, if you had stayed with os5 you would have seen the same speed reductions now.
