Recently moved to SA, inherited a capped Telkom 4Mb/0.5Mb account and moved to an uncapped 4Mb/0.5Mb OpenWeb.

Now I gather Telkom run all the lines here and determine the speed - but does it not occur to them that a common requirement for decent speed these days is Audio/Video conferencing programs?

We are not Linux Distro  downloaders and some of us just want to use other tools that require a decent connection both ways.

0.5 makes me feel like I've stepped back 10 years. Surely 4 to 1 would have been more reasonable?

where you located in SA and where did you move from if i may ask.

Phone Telkom and ask them to upgrade your line to 10Mbit, if your exchange supports this you will at least get double the upload speed as it syncs at 10240/1024.

I came from Turkey and I am in Cape Town.

As for Telkom, those jokers had me on the phone every day for 2 weeks after I bumped my line up to 4/10 whereby the sales people were insisting my local exchange supported 10 and the technical people kept saying no, its 4.

What is your "mode" in your ADSL Stats when browsing your router? Mine is on "ADSL_G.dmt" and as far as I know that only supports 4mb which is what I'm on and have been waiting for Telkom to upgrade to ADSL2+ to get 10mb since they announced 10mb which is about 2 years ago, so don't hold your breath for anything to happen if you in the same situation.

Are they unable to allow you a 4Mb down and .5Mb upload on that line? IE, they're unable to offer 4Mb down, 1Mb up??

I have a 4096 down 512 up line.

I don't think 1024 up on a 4mb line is possible.
