Hello

I have the following scenario that I need to setup and know that it possible I just haven't had the time yet to play around with the configuration mainly because I am still waiting for the hardware

Basically I have 2 wireless devices whose IP address I set to static, lets say for arguments sake 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2. These 2 devices then connect wireless'ly to my Dlink 1160 AP via the wireless network I setup on the AP. I also give the AP a static IP in the same range as the 2 wireless devices (e.g. 192.168.1.100 - not sure if this is neccessary)

This all works fine like this and the wireless devices can see each other

However I now need to connect a third device to this setup this time via ethernet cable. My DLink 1160 AP is thus connect via ethernet cable to a Router which assigns IP Addresses via DHCP. The third device is also connected to this router. I need for this 3rd device connected by ethernet cable to be able to communicate with the two other wireless devices connected to my Dlink 1160 AP which in turn is connected to the router

My question is how will this now work. If when plugged into the router my AP now gets assigned a IP address automatically does this have an effect on the static IP of my wireless devices.

I understand that the third wired device will be able to communicate with the DLink AP plugged into the router as they will have the same IP range (eg 192.172.40.X) and are connected to the same router.

But if my wireless devices have their own static IP's which are a different range to the DHCP IP's assigned by the router can devices connected to the router communicate with my wireless devices connected to my AP and if so how?

Do I need to change my wireless devices to DHCP as well so that the router will somehow assign them IP addresses as well when it assigns the AP an IP or does the AP assign the wireless devices IP's in range with its IP which it acquired from the router?

Ideally I need to keep the wireless devices IP's static as these are used in a program which needs to know what the devices IP's are

Please can someone help as I am confused as to how the AP and the Router need to be setup to allow all devices wired and wireless on the router and AP to communicate with each other

Thanks
Mark
