Quick question:

Does this router allow one to simultaneously have both a connection on the router and then a second a 'dial-up' type connection from a PC? So in essence act as both a modem and a router?

I think on Billion routers the feature is known as 'PPPoE Relay' but I cant seem to find anything similar in the spec's on the 2540U.

Yes. Your router is basically a 2500U with a 4-port switch built in. I use the 2500U in half-bridge mode almost 90% of the time. It actually supports more than one "dial-up" connection at once, together with the connection on the router.

You don't need to enable half-bridge mode explicitly (well I didn't have to). Just create the connection on the router, connect the PPPoE dialup session on the PC and you're done. :)

D-Link Routers rock - that's all there is to it.

Whatever it is you want to do, it'll do it. And it'll be easy to setup.

No I don't work for D-Link :D

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.

Should probably expand on this, its actually for a friend in Cape Town. She ended up buying the DSL-2640U, which appears to be the same router but with wireless.

Weird thing is she manages to connect via her PC ('dial up') but the connection on the router is not connecting. I remote PC'd into her machine after she connected, set up the username/password etc and I cant figure out why the router is not connecting. She says the light above the "Internet" indicator on the router is red.

The Bios looks the same as shown in this manual:
ftp://ftp.dlinktech.co.za/support/dsl2500u/dsl-2500u(Dx)_manual.pdf

Is there something simple I'm missing as to why the router wont connect.

That's the router I have, I've set it up countless times before for myself, and for my clients. If you'd like me to help, PM me and we'll sort it out.
