Hi,

I've just got a dlink dsl-2750u from telkom, it comes with the standard guest account already setup on it. Straight out of the box I could connect up to my ISP (Plugg) using Dial-up ADSL from my PC. This worked fine for a couple of hours then i lost connectivity and it refused to reconnect. The Telkom guest account on the router was still connected and I could get as far as the telkom site.

So I reset the router, using the reset button at the back.
I changed the account on the router to be my ISP (Plugg) and removed the telkom guest account. This also worked fine for a couple of hours then again, lost connectivity and wouldn't reconnect.

I reset again and setup another account (Axxess Uncapped) on the router and dial-up from my PC on PLugg. This also worked for a couple of hours then stopped completely.

It seems the only way to rectify this every time is to restart the router, its bloody irritating, has anyone else seen this before, is it the router or a setting I could have missed?

Thanks

Make sure that you've unselected the 'Dial on demand' setting on the modem, which you'll find under the WAN/PPPoE configuration.

Btw, I also bought that ADSL modem last week and it was a big mission to remove the stupid label that was stuck over the LAN ports and top of the modem. I had to use mineral turpentine to remove it completely.
Did you also have issues with that sticker?

Lol, the one on the ports off, but it ripped and left a paper layer that I had to scratch off with my finger nail. The one on the top I haven't attempted yet, but at least I have something to look forward to now.

I saw the dial on demand, but the way it was worded and my logic made me think whatever it was set to was correct, but I'll double check.

Sorry just to add if that's not the issue, the ADSL is still synced up perfectly, its just the ISP account that wont connect, if that wasn't evident from the explanation where I mention the telkom account works after it happens. Will let you know after 24 hours if it happens again,

thanks

Its not the 'Dial on demand' it's already unchecked.

There is a 'PPPoE pass-through' which is checked

'Enable multiple PPP connections over one VC/VLAN tag option available' is also checked

I have a similar problem on my DSL2500u (1 port) that I use with my Mikrotik router.. Every few hours I have to reboot the DLINK as the internet stops working even though the DLINK syncs and the Mikrotik shows thats the internet (pppoe) is connected but no traffic.. It's been like this for a few months, I have been to lazy to check the settings so I just replaced it with another DLINK but still having the same problem.. It could also be a line fault, since the replacement router does the same thing.

I have my Dlink wireless router (DIR-655) connecting to my Dlink wireless ADSL router too. The DIR-655 usually dials the uncapped account for wireless sharing and I turn the wireless on the ADSL router off. Legacy setup from when I had the old marconi 4 port with no wireless. Makes it easier to manage.

But yeah, in addition to not being able to dial through my pc, my DIR-655 router cant establish a connection with ISP either. At least its not just me.

@Pada, what setup are you using on yours? Is yours a telkom account, because so far the only thing that has been functional after a drop is the telkom guest account on the router - I smell a rat :)

I'm actually using a Telkom 5100 ADSL modem in bridge mode, with my PPPoE connection being dialed by a MikroTik RouterOS that runs on my HP Microserver N36L.
The DSL-2750U that I bought was for my aunt, but I still need to test it.

Just take note that with many uncapped ISP accounts, the modem will not be able to authenticate again directly after the connection dropped - or at least this is what I'm experiencing with my MWEB uncapped account.
Like I have to wait 5 minutes or so before I can redial my MWEB uncapped account when I've disconnected it.

I have similar issue with my D-Link from Telkom, tried both the official firmware and the firmware from D-Link's SA site. I lose my wireless connection once or twice per day. Sometimes it recovers after a few seconds and at other times I have to reboot the modem. A wired connection to a PC have no problems at all. There is another thread on the forum that reports the similar issues. The reason why I put up with this is that the router has a print server that work quite well over the network.

PS Lost the connection just as I was posting

Thanks Pada, I understand the uncapped only being able to reconnect after 5 mins due to it only allowing one concurrent session.

Its definitely not that, there's something funky with this router so I'm just going to return it and get the linksys instead I think.

Ps, Heres what my log says when it happens. Its happened at some point during this:
