The *correct* DNS addresses to use for ADSL when your ISP is Intekom are:
196.43.1.13 and 196.43.3.206.

I have determined that many of the intermittent problems connecting to the e-mail service and web-pages not being available are caused by DNS problems.

I have been plagued by slow and unreliable DNS lookups since the start as I have been using the addresses 196.25.1.1 and 196.25.1.9 as I was instructed by e-mail when I got the service. I was then told during two support calls that I should actually use 196.43.1.11 and 196.25.1.11. When the problems persisted and I insisted on getting decent answers, I finally got the addresses above and the problems have gone away. It only took me 70 minutes on the phone fending off responses like "You are the only person complaining about DNS" and
"the DNS servers cannot be pinged because pinging overloads it" (!).
Finally a "second level support person" told me that the bad addresses are used for dial-up and he gave me the correct ones.

Thought I would share it so you don't have to suffer the same pain.

Yep, I know that one. The helpdesk gives you different ones all the time. And in their welcome mail with your user id/password, they give you a different one again. Just gives you an indication how clued up these guys are.

But anyway, I "dial" into ADSL, and 196.43.1.13 is the address I have always received automatically from the start (even though their support gives you different DNS's). Generally, I've been fine with that one.

Just makes me wonder: I'm reasably well versed technically, but I can't imagine how someone without technical knowledge could ever cope with this stuff....
