Is anyone else having trouble sending mail? smtp.wbs.co.za isn't resolving. My router picks up 196.46.70.1 for DNS, which doesn't resolve smtp.wbs.co.za.

To make matters worse, 196.30.31.207, which is what smtp.wbs.co.za used to resolve to, isn't replying either:

telnet 196.30.31.207 25
Trying 196.30.31.207...
telnet: connect to address 196.30.31.207: Connection timed out

And of course I can't send mail through our office authenticated SMTP...

Its definitely down

Hi, iBurst Servers are definitely down. Try going to www.iburst.co.za or www.wbs.co.za - nothing there either. If someone know what the problem is or how long it will take to fix - please let us know

What area are you in?

Hi there KJ

Can't send mail through our office authenticated SMTP... = Send an email to the helpdesk to unblock your SMTP address, include IP address - If you are still having issues after they have unblocked your SMTP server, change the outgoing SMTP port number to 587 and enable encryption (SSL), this might not work in all cases but was my only alternative.

As per iBurst site:
Remember: if you're on a network only 4 mails can be sent out concurrently.
Server should be in “host forwarding mode” (NOT “DNS delivery mode”).
Server response setting set to 180 seconds.
Maximum mail size must be less than 10 MB.
Maximum number of recipients per message = 30

Here (off the Rosebank JHB tower):

www.iburst.co.za - DNS does not resolve
smtp.iburst.co.za resolves (to the same address as smtp.wbs.co.za) - but ping is dead

sending mail fails (and thanks to iBurst's dumba$$ spam rules I now have no way to send mail)

website fails to load

who.is.michael, I'm in Blairgowrie. Not sure which tower I'm connected to - I more or less have line of sight with both Rosebank and Sandton.

I can't access the iBurst website, so sorry, couldn't get that information. Either ways, non of it works:

Mail:

telnet 208.67.219.40 25
Trying 208.67.219.40...
telnet: connect to address 208.67.219.40: Connection timed out

telnet 196.46.70.2 25
Trying 196.46.70.2...
Connected to 196.46.70.2.

451 Temporary local problem - please try later

If not even their own primary and secondary DNS servers (196.30.31.200 and 196.30.31.201 according to co.za) can resolve smtp.wbs.co.za, then no third party DNS servers are going to help you. At least not after the zone's TTL runs out.

Well it aint the first time...

http://iburst.co.za/ is active http://iburst.co.za/default.aspx?link=support_incident

It all started in 2005...

…or maybe iBurst neglected to pay their domain fees, seems plausible, LOL.
